I dont think highly of Gatti's ability but he certainly had a better skill level than Mayo ever had. Mayo was a natural fighter though...his chin and fighting instinct were impressive.
give respect to mayo, he did beat a skillful forrest and was neck-to-neck with mosley, the same man that destroyed margarito's chin
im pretty impressed by the contender level mayorga. his technique is off but he knows what he is doing. people forget he was a decent enough nicoraguan amatuer
 A thread by Asero not about Pacquiao?? :huh I'm i dreaming?? I'll wake up soon to see thread by Asero about how he's applied to be Manny's new masseur. :yep
Mayorga was definitely skilled. He was very awkward and at times too macho. But he was very good at one time but he let it go to his head. He was fast had power and if he decided to could defend decent(even though trying to be a tough guy he would pput out his chin for a free shot.
And see what? And it's not about being past prime,Mayorga was indeed past his prime with de la Hoya but so was Oscar. He wa spoorly trained for that fight and you could see that.A better trained Mayorga did decent with Vargas and Mosley. But also a past prime it Gatti outboxed Ward several times with a broken hand, outboxed Branco for most of the fight with a broken hand, did a beautiful boxing clinic with Leija, outboxed and outfought again with a broken hand with Damgaard. And I didn't even go in his prime.
I'll pick Mayorga here. Both have no skill and are one dimensional. When it comes to this, as much as I have seen of both it comes down to resume and how they applied their ability. Mayorga's biggest win is Forrest x2 Gatti biggest win is tomato can Micky Ward(he even lost once) Mayorga's one dimension seems to be more affective. The guy even gave Mosley HELL in the fight and was arguably winning going in the 12th.
