In terms of skill/ability/talent/effectiveness, whatever you want to call it. Who was better h2h, who impressed you more, in short: who was the better fighter?

    Where`s the `too close to call` option ?

That would be my answer, Ive always struggled to split Hagler, Jones, Arguello & Mayweather as far as `best fighter` (resume & achievements not included)

If pushed, I might lean towards RJJ over Hagler & will vote as such but I might change my mind tomorrow.

Today, what are your reasons for giving Roy a slight edge mate?

Hagler was the more skilled of the two, but it could be argued that Jones had the more effective range of abilities against a wider variety of styles. However, I think Jones's chin would've always been a question mark against top flight opposition (primarily the punchers), whereas Hagler didn't have any glaring weaknesses. It's one of those comparisons that just comes down to personal preference, IMO. Both were of the same quality the way I see it.

Too close to call. Jones is a nightmare for most ATG's H2H....Hagler's sheer will, toughness and variety of skills makes him nigh on unbeatable for most as well.

Jones displayed his skills in blistering fashion against sometimes overmatched opponents.

Hagler displayed his in tougher fights, but against tougher opponents.

I would say Hagler, as I won't allow weight-jumping to cloud my judgement.

Who would you fancy h2h at 160?

    '93 Jones v '80-83ish Marvin?

I'd probably give Marvin the edge over 15 rounds, due to factors mentioned above in relation to Jones's durability worries. No doubt Jones would be a handful for Marvin to figure out, but in the end I think he has more dimensions to rely on in a battle between ATG's, especially one who'd yet to truly hit his peak.

If I replaced the name JONES JR with the name MONZON in the thread-title, what would your answer have been?

    Hagler was a better fighter.
Jones had better athleticism thats it.
Hagler faced much much better opposition and was just a plain strait out better fighter.
