Last night i got maself some cracked ribs.

Today, was worse, i woke up, couldnt move, couldnt lean to brush teeth, cant breathe proper, coughing and sneezing are murdering me.

All i know is rest will fix them, strangely i aint ever had buggered ribs before.

Anyone else bust them before ? Any ideas on keeping fit, from what i have learnt today, basically do nothing, is the best way.

    Frustrating !!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, changing gears in the car is worst of all :fire

I'm no doctor but all I can say is be careful mate. You dont want to make the fracture worse and puncture a lung or anything

elliptical crosstrainer and maybe swimming are about your only options
just getting over some cracked ribs of my own
don't do anything to jostle them or they'll take longer to heal
just suck it up and get some rest
    it's only 6 weeks if you're careful

Invest in one of those chest wrap thingys. That will save you, it basically keeps your ribs from expanding when you breath.
I bruised mine a few years ago and it took a good 6-9 months before it felt back to normal.

But for now rest for a couple of weeks minimum.

I take it you've been to the hospital? Rib injuries are no joke. They can take up to a year to heal fully. And dont even try to work out you'll only make it worse.

If you can't do elliptical crosstrainer, then your only option is to keep the diet super strict and walk as much as possible.
I have two wraps for my ribs - 1 is a back support like you can find at the drug store, the other is a neoprene wrap that they sell in online boxing shops - usually for cutting weight.
I was wearing both on the 11th of May when I jostled my ribs again doing cardio and pretty much re-injured them.
Luckily my kid was born 3 days later, so I had a good excuse to be out of the gym.
I'm glad I waited those few weeks because now I'm back and the ribs aren't bothering me.

I didn't even do cardio when I inured them initially til at least the 2 week mark.

Be patient with your body and it will be there for you when you need it.
Rush things and you'll regret it i'm sure.

Well a mate, she a nurse, she was round an checked em out, yeah i know i should go to hospital, i think i will tomorrow. She reckons two are cracked, yeah she poked around, no she aint a doc etc i know.

As she said herself, and a few others said. They will just do what i did, wont x-ray and send you home. Though they are still sore today.

Today they arent as bad but u forget and go to do something and well you know the rest.

    Cheers for the replys :good

Doctor didn't do anything for me either time that I broke my ribs.
Just took an x-ray and gave me a script for pain pills.
This last time, they gave me cortisone shots because I was having problems breathing, but otherwise they didn't really do anything.
Unless you're coughing up blood, which is indicative of a punctured lung, they won't even give you a back brace.

Broke mine last year like Pork Chop said docs did basically nothing for me I got pills that didnt work and wasted a couple bucks. I broke em in JiuJitsu training one day and it got worse once I decided to get back in the gym I was slammed down and had to be carried out and drove home. I soon after quit my job because one of the reasons being I couldnt do **** without straining and having trouble breathing. I rested about 2 months and it got better ever day. All you can do is rest them and dont risk puncturing a lung.
