http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1190673/Final-whistle-set-blow-Setanta.htm Looks like setanta could be taking over by Espn. I hope setanta surives but if Espn takes over there should be plenty of boxing hopefully the big American fights.
That was my first thought. If they do take over maybe we will get ESPN's FNF or something. Could be pretty good actually.
Would ESPN coming in not hurt what we see of boxing. HBO fights and PPV fights might be more reluctant to sell to them rather than Setanta
Would be great as long as ESPN kept Setanta as a separate entity, which means Setanta can still select which fights they want to broadcast.
ESPN put allot into boxing in the states, hopefully same will happen here. As I have said previously, and i think its been unfairly shot down, heavially investing in boxing could be seen as a reason why setanta have failed.
The boxing investment is probably just a fraction of the investment for the football they have gotten. However, more people will have subscribed to setanta for the football, so both, and other sports, could be blamed equally.
think it would be a good think if they got espn involved they do pretty good coverage anyways and would only help setanta i'm sure
Well the Haye contract was apparently between £10m-£12m, there premiership contract over 3 years is £396m. These are probably the two most expensive contracts in each sport, which shows the difference in costs. Plus they get more football contracts than boxing.
