Exactlky like I said earlier. The only three guys who have put Toney down were Reggie Johnson, Roy Jones (barely), and Samuel Peter who did so only once in twetyfour rounds. Toney would be a good last minute sub. It would be interesting to see if Wlad could be the first man to stop him.

True, and Sam Peter and Roy Jones didn't even hurt Toney. James was just off-balance and not even slightly buzzed, plus that Roy Jones KD was more of a push than a punch, we all saw that. The only man to have somewhat hurt James and scored a legitimate KD against him remains Reggie Johnson.

I think Peter had him hurt but not close to a knockout. I do agree that he was probably hurt more by Johnson than the other two. :deal

well I actually thought that Peter had him much more hurt in the 5th round of their first fight (the one that Toney should've won) than in that 2nd fight where he knocked him down. But then again that was due to Peter hammering Toney with some heavy illegal rabbit punches to the back of the head..

We both agree that Toney would be a great last minute step in. The other step ins that I would like to see are Valuev, Maskev, Kevin Johnson, minto or Solis.

I reside in Europe. No one knows who James Toney is.

And no, I don't want to see Wlad-Ruiz. I'm just explaining why Ruiz isn't issuing any challenges - he's waiting on his shot against Valuev because that's where he has a realistic shot.

Come to think of it, Toney would also be the ideal man to hype the fight among casual boxing fans, even in Germany where he is not well known. He's an ATG (the only ATG left in the HW division, together with Holyfield - yes, I know it's sad), he's a multiple former world champion and he's never been stopped in over 20 years - 80 pro fights against a who is who in every division from MW upwards. He's as charismatic a fighter as there ever was one, and he talks a good talk, better and funnier than Haye anyway. He's far more popular in the US than David Haye too. The german boxing public is tired of Chagaev, Valuev and Ruiz, they're only waiting for living legends like Holyfield or Toney to cross the pond. At any rate, Wlad would remain the main draw in Germany no matter who he would face, and Toney isn't more unknown there than Haye, Rahman, Thompson, Austin or Brock for that matter...

I'd watch Wlad-Toney. Toney has very little cahnce of winning, but I'm a fan of his and I'd watch it with the faint hope that he catches Wlad and KO's him. That would be something.

There aren't that many opponents left who would fight him on such short notice. I doubt Valuev will.

Me too and more people know who James Toney is than who John Ruiz is in here.

Maybe you have more boxing fans among those who you communicate with on a regular basis.
Casual people that I talk to every day haven't got a clue about James Toney. Or John Ruiz for that matter

Another thing, Toney has more credentials than David Haye to get a shot at the belts. Even if his run at HW has been somewhat of a roller-coaster, he's done more there than Haye has done. OK David Haye was the CW champ, but so what - Toney was that too when he moved up.

That cheater wouldn't "save" any event, he'd ruin it - like he's ruined any fight he's ever been against opponents above the tomato can level, with his excessive holding and other illegal tactics.

I would like to see Wlad try to jab his way through Toney. LOL. His best weapon would totally be negated.

I'm not a fan of either of these guys but the more I think about it, the more I want to see it.

I agree, no one will accept him, especially Klitschko. Minto has a bad habit of coming to fight.

Why do you think that Vlad would be reluctant to fight Toney? Are you one of those people who believes that Toney is "the class" of the heavyweights, and that it's obvious that beat Vlad with ease?
