    According to Fightnews.com:

UPDATE: Chris Arreloa’s promoter Dan Goossen has rejected any possibility of Arreola stepping in for injured David Haye. “Chris isn’t in the type of shape you need to be for fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world,” he told the LA Times. “One thing you don’t do with elite athletes is give them a short window to prepare.”
    —–
IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will fight on June 20th at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. While various heavyweight contenders hope to step in to replace Davis Haye, Wlad has already made it clear that he wants Chris Arreola. “If the fight against David Haye doesn’t take place, I’ll fight against Chris Arreola,” Wlad said on the Alexey Potapov Boxing Diary published on the Russian site Sports.ru.

He isn't afraid, the man is just ridiculously out of shape as usual. His own cornerman said in an interview that Arreola was 285 lbs before he entered training camp for the McCline fight. If he's anywhere near that right now then he really shouldn't be stepping in the ring to fight anyone let alone the #1 heavyweight in the world.

Let this be a lesson to Arreola to keep himself in shape even in between fights because big opportunities like this don't come around every day, and he just blew it by being lazy and overweight.

How does this prove that David Arreola is afraid of Wald, who in their right mind would put their fighter in a fight , where he could not possibly get ready in time? Wald has more then likely peaked, it would be stupid to put areola in a fight with him at this stage of his training .

I honestly don't think Arreola can get into peak shape at this point.

Afraid? Because Arreola won't accept short notice (about 3 weeks) to fight Wlad for the World title? I'd say he's smart to wait to get in peak form and make his fans proud of his work ethic.

nobody really wants to fight WK now. He has learned and matured and mastered the sport, he is as dominant as anyone ever was. He is unbeatable right now. povetkin and now haye know this.

they all want to wait a few years.

If anyone is afraid it is Wlad Klit bcuz he calls out a fighter when the fighter isn't ready on short notice. A champion should fight the best, not an unprepared warrior.

You're being stupid with that, Goossen is being honest about it and said his guy is physically not fit enough. Even if it was, why ruin a potential big fight between the two into a "replacement"?, Arreola is one of the best guys he has in his stable and protecting him is his job.

The man who's really scared and the one to question is the biggest fraud in boxing history Nikolay Valuev. The fraud was set to fight recently, why doesn't he step in and accept it?, we all know he's in shape.

 He's only dominant because he faces mostly undersized stiffs. The division is about as strong as the American economy, if he was fighting in the 70's or 90's he would have his glass jaw exposed alot more than he already has.

I don't think Arreola is afraid of Wlad he is just a fat out od shape slob. He is costing himself a big payday with possibly more down the line if he wins because he can't put the doughnuts and cheeseburgers down. Pathetic.

The lack of professionalism in boxing today is astonishing. There is no excuse for getting fat between fights. I'm not a fan of the doctors Klitschko, but one thing they have always been is truly professional. The rest of those bums should sit up and take notice.

Fighting Vlad is every heavyweight's cash-out fight. They know they can't beat Vlad, so they hold out for the biggest payday, ideally as Vlad's mandatory challenger. It would actually be bad management for Arreola to rush into a Vlad fight on June 20th.
