The fab four of the eighties even have another great fighter in Wilfred Benitez.

It could be argued that the newer fights were more exciting...but in no way were those fighters on the same level as the four kings!!!

It's an interesting comparison. The 21st century Fab 4 has the best trilogy and the better rematches, but the 80's Fab 4 has by FAR the better single fights, there was less room for "prime for prime" arguments, and of course, the round robin was fully completed.

Just that it's a debate worth having tells us how lucky we were to see the JMM-Pac-EM-MAB rivalry unfold. Al isn't so far off here.

Plus these guys were closer to their natural weights and primes when fighting then were the 80's guys. I'm not sure that Duran had any business fighting Hagler at his age and at 160 lbs. This decades matchups were more evenly matched for the most part....

I'd agree with Al here. JMM, Pac, Morales, & Barrera just don't get the credit they deserve because they're smaller fighters and aren't as well known as the Fab 4.

They may have made for the more exciting fights, but they sure as hell aren't better fighters.

i would agree. but just you wait and see when in the future they look back at these fighters just as we look back at the kings of the 80's. i would agree with the guy that said we are lucky to have been around when JMM, Pac, Morales, and Barrera duked it out.

The Fight with Barrera-Morales 1 is the best fight of all time, Yes the 4 Kings were greater and better fighters but the 4 Bernstein is talking about are great in there own right as well.

Its comparable, but imo had JMM been given the opportunity to fight MAB and Morales back in the time where Hamed was ducking him.......this discussion would not be relevant, as JMM would be sitting by his lonesome on top.

I actually think Lennox Lewis is the best commentator out there....the things he says are so insightful and well thought out.

Anyone discrediting Bernstein is a moron. The man is hands down the best commentator the sport has ever seen as far as in depthy analysis and unbiased opinions.

This is a very debateable matter. Anyone who thinks its a clear advantage to either group of four fighters is delusional.

Al is my fave commentator but he is out of his mind if he thinks those four are on the skill level with the fab four. Duran at 135 would have aired them all out. @ 147 hearns and Leonard are top 10 welters of all time and Hagler...is just well Hagler.

the 3 mexicans and the pino make for good fights though.
