Joe Calzaghes fight with promoter Frank Warren has entered the next round. The undefeated former world champion boxer won a judgment against Warrens Sports Network earlier this year for almost £2 million, however Calzaghe has yet to see a penny of the money awarded to him by the High Court. Yesterday Calzaghe commenced legal proceedings against Warren personally, claiming that Warren had conspired to deprive him of his money, had conspired to use unlawful means to damage him and had knowingly assisted in a breach of trust or fiduciary duty by Sports Network. Calzaghe also lodged a complaint to the British Boxing Board of Control alleging misconduct by Warren in relation to the non-payment and the lengths to which Calzaghe says Warren has gone to attempt to ensure that he will never be paid. Calzaghe seeks compensation from Warren for the amount of money due to him and is asking the Board to withdraw or suspend Warrens promoters license until such time as that compensation has been paid. Im sickened by the way Ive been treated, said Calzaghe. If Warren thinks Ill walk away from this, after putting myself and my career record at risk in the ring, hes mistaken. Ill pursue him all the way until justice is done.
Nice one Joe, hopefully he get every penny he is due. Warren thinks he owns fighters for their whole careers, not their contracts!!!
Good, I hope he gets every penny. Is Warren the most sued man in Britain? He should have his own car parking space at court he's there that often.
Good! that was damned sneaky of Frank to declare Sports Network bankrupt just so he didn't have to cough up.
I think this will be a long & drawn out process & even if Joe gets what he obviously rightfully deserves, one wonders how much his legal bill will be at the end of the case? If Joe is victorious in this one, I wonder if Warren will be ordered to pay Calzaghe's legal costs? Give it the old one-two, Joe!
Not convinced but hopefully Calzaghe gets a swift conclusion to this and it opens the floodgates on dam Sports Network/Frank Warren Promotions
