-While getting carted away by security- "I'LL SUE YOU FOR EVERY ****ING THING YOU GOT! EVERY ****ING THING! THIS IS A FIX DON!"
He was exchanging with Holyfield and floored the guy, not many people can make that claim even if it was a past prime Holyfield. As you say he was exchanging with Valuev without an ounce of fear too. As I pointed out earlier he'd suffered one of the most humiliating KO's I've ever seen, yet he came back and was prepared to fight in that style whatever the consequences, and against some big hitters too. Now compare that to the cautious style the likes of WALDO and Lewis adopted after they got stopped....sure Ruiz isn't as good as the aforementioned but he most definately has bigger balls. Yes he's not exactly exciting to watch but I can't help liking and respecting the guy.
Oh well then, hope that changes in the long run as he doesn't deserve it at all. Ugly style or not, you do what you have to do to win, Hopkins does worse when needed, Lewis, Ali, Tyson, Robinson, Leonard and all others had their share.
Lewis gets plenty of credit, I'm one of his biggest fans. Lewis was 10x more talented than John Ruiz ever was, and is a top 5 ATG heavyweight in my opinion. The point here is that Ruiz, while limited and dull to watch, has his good points. It's easy to **** on a guy and in certain cases fighters deserve the criticism but Ruiz seems to attract negativity in spades despite having a record that is littered with VERY good fighters.
You don't have to leave the first page to read someone slighting Lennox Lewis. Hell there's a thread where someone says that Ray Mercer "ass ****ed" Lennox Lewis. Of all the legendary HWs from that era of boxing, he gets the least credit.
Oh hell no he isn't, just talking about illegal tactics in general and how people make it look like Ruiz is the only one. I mention these greats because they represent the sport and had their share so someone in Ruiz' caliber shouldn't be blamed day and night if far better guys did it.
Lennox is getting good attention everytime he's mentioned, only when he retired he was bashed on and it lasted long because Vitali wouldn't give up on his rematch demands. If you look at it now and how he's rated people have him in top 10 heavyweight ATG lists. What is missing and what makes people seem like they forgot about him is lack of character/personality.
