It's still a potential problem when one man holds all the cards and dictates to the fighters not even signed with him who they must fight. It's like the mob days again.
Good. **** Jose Sulaiman. GBP is where it's at and Oscar is living up to his word to clean up the sport.
Whether or not Sulaiman is a corrupt **** (he is) doesn't mean he may have a valid point. If other promoters get frozen out is that alright with you guys? Should every fighter need to go to Goldenboy? Why should any other promoter take the time to bring up a fighter if he may just get stolen later? HBO needs to not cater to one promoter as obviously as they do. It's NOT good for the sport. Needs to be an even playing field.
Isnt that what Arum is doing now with guys like Goosen and Greg Leon? Wouldn't it be better if all of Top Rank's commodities were on GBP so that they could fight guys like Williams and what not?
I agree with you about needing an even playing field, but a big part of that solution is getting rid of people like Jose Sillyman. When he identifies another problem for the sport and is oblivious to the damage he's done to it, it comes off like Al Capone speaking out against bootlegging at the point in time someone coincidentally is beating him at his own game. In fact, if he wanted people to think this was a problem, he'd have taken the exact opposite stance and said he loved what Golden Boy's doing. That's how bad his credibility is.
Sulaiman is a ****ing gangster scammer, he should shut the **** up before someone does him for corruption
Right. Everytime Sulaiman talks, he just continues to brood in his own ignorance and idiocy. And this isn't just a GBP issue. This could be ANY organization. What Sulaiman essentially is saying is "We don't want one belt because then we can't rip off the fighters like we used to." Basically.
Arum is just a promoter...he doesn't control anything but who his fighter fights. And Arum isn't exactly pulling in all the TV dates himself, and is left to do regional PPV's on his dime. Not sure what you mean w/ Leon., He's just an "advisor" to guys who think they are more worhty then they really are. Boxing needs a commission, not one promoter to hold all fighters. And Williams can get fights. He's just looking at the who he thinks gets him the most exposure. We'll see if he fights other contenders or name calls other champs who aren't obligated in any way to face him.
No, I agree. The ABC's have been ****in up lesser name fighters in favor of cash cows for ages now. And with the way HBO fawns over GBP, who's to say GBP doesn't become another ABC w/ cable backing it. What happens if GBP and HBO do lock up into some partnership. Then we have GPB w/ Ring AND ther most powerful network. That is WAAY too much for a promotional companay.
Sounds pretty good to me. Sulaiman should go eat a dick. A monopoly would have dire side affects though, the best would fight the best, fighters wouldn't be able to cherrypick meaningless belts, fighters wouldn't have ridiculous conflicting mandatory issues when trying to unify and become "the man" etc etc.
every major sport is centralized. Its better for the sport and its fans which means its better for the fighters in the long run.
There's a great article by Nigel Collins on the Ring website this week about the make up and way that Ring titles work. Sulaiman is just crying becuase they don't charge money or strip/annoint people of championships at will. One title for boxing I say.
