I hope not. POvetkin is going to get thrashed, and fast.

Chagaev is a much better and more credible opponent.

I hope Chag gets (agrees to) the fight, not Povetkin.

i really like povetkin but he looked like garbage against estrada last time out. too much ring rust after spending 9 months out of the ring, i'd rather see him take one more bout before taking on wlad.

chagaev didn't look much better but ruslan is at a way more advanced position in his career, i'd rather see him get the shot.

At this point there's nothing to say Chagaev is better than Povetkin.

My first wish is that We get Wlad vs Haye... but If Wlad doesn't want to wait...

I think Povetikin is a better fight than Chagaev. It gets a mandatory out of the way. Plus, Chagaev is like a non-factor. I know he has some sort of WBA belt, as does Valuev???? Who knows anymore? The WBA is a mess. Chagaev has not anyone of note fought since fighting Valuev. Chagaev gets hurt, he's sick, he's dying... he has herpes? WTF...Who knows what's up with that guy?

Povetkin has bee active, he earned a mandatory slot. Get him out of the way.

Heck, have Wlad fight Povetkin, and Haye and Chagaev can get a quick deal to fight each other when Haye heals. Then Wlad vs Haye will be a unification bout.

Povetkin is very hittable, and that means a fast KO when you have Wlad's power and reach.

Chagaev is a better mover who has better skills, which he showed against Valuev.........

And, once again, Chagaev means further unification, which the division sorely needs. Povetkin can fight the winner, but if Chag is willing to take the fight, that should be, by far the first choice...........

Against Valuev...a fight 2 years ago. Since then Ruslan has had two fights against less than stellar competition and looked like absolute ass in between there. Not only that but the main attributes you mentioned (his movement and his skills) looked extremely eroded in a laugher against Skelton. He looked almost metallic against Drummond. This also doesn't mention the fact that Ruslan has had multiple injuries, questions about his eye sight and whether he could pass a medical test and tons of backed out of fights (2 against Valuev, 1 against Ibragamov).

I'm a very firm believer that a healthy Ruslan Chagaev is one of the best HWs in the division (I honestly thought during the Ruslan-Sultan-Wlad and Peter era he was 2nd behind Wlad) but all signs point to him being on the right side of cooked basically.

i have to agree with you for the most part. he didn't look dreadful in his last 2 fights but like you said "eroded" in some ways. I give him a very small chance against wlad.

However, stylistically its tougher fight for wlad than povetkin. Povetkin is fresher but isn't as defensive or saavy as chagaev. ruslan can at least move laterally a bit and give wlad different angles. I think both are dominant wins for wlad but i like the chagaev fight cause the ring title comes along with it and maybe the wba strap

wlad-povetkin will just happen a few months later assuming povetkin stays out of the woods this time :yep

Im picking wlad to stop chagaev late in the fight. It will be tactical early, then wlad will begin to break chagaev down.

I'm a firm believer that they'll never be any semblance of unification or anything like that so it doesn't sway me. I just want the best fights in a division devoid of them.

If Chag is healthy then he probably does pretend a better styles clash than Wlad mainly because as has been mentioned, he moves well. Just color me skeptical that he's healthy because everything we've seen recently (3 backed out fights, injuries, this whole hepatitus nonsense and the two fights most recent) says otherwise.

certainly a possibility but even if he is, it gets rid of one contender and moves wlad closer to complete unification. of course, he cannot be the undisputed champ til his bro retires but it's a step he has to take in the process.

if we're lucky, wba lets chagaev/valuev remain co-champs which then forces valuev to fight wlad
