Just because the top two refuse to fight each other? I'm not really on either side of the fence here inre: Klitschko-Haye (or Chagaev for that matter) but I think if Chagaev and Klitschko fight it shouldn't necessarily be for the title. After all, there isn't a special circumstance (injury, etc.), the top two just flat out refuse to fight.

u should know by now that to create a ring champion #1 has to fight #2 or #3. chag is 3 there's nothing to argue

But it's only under "special circumstances" that 1-3 is for a title. In this case I don't see anything special about the fact that the 1 and 2 flat out refuse to fight. They are clearly the best in the division and the drop-off between 2-3 is HUGE. How does beating Chagaev prove that Wlad is the champion of the division, when #2 is possibly even better than #1????

The precedent's already happened before, Vitali and Wladimir aren't fighting, might as well put the Ring Magazine title on the line.

Has it happened just because the top two refused to fight each other?

And don't you think "might as well..." is a ****-poor reason to crown a champion?

Credit to The Ring for finally deciding to recognize a HW champ. They apparently weren't going to give the title to Wlad following a likely defeat of Haye anyways. So, a Wlad/Chagaev match is ultimtely better for the division.

It should be for the title. the only other way is if somebody beats both Wald and Vatili which anit gonna happen, plus there never gonna fight each other

#1 vs #3 for The Ring belt has happened multiple times and in multiple divisions. It is nothing new.

I understand this. My point is that the "special circumstances" creating the title possibility is that 1 and 2 just refuse to fight and I think that is a first for that.

It's not about 'special circumstances' it's if the Ring decision making body feels that the #3 contender is worthy or nearly as worthy as the #2 contender. I don't think that saying 'the brothers won't fight' is a good excuse and I don't think that Chagaev is a spectacular #3. ..but that's my opinion.

WE agree in spirit here, as I think there is no comparison between HW 2 and 3, but it IS about special circumstances, per their own policy:

Ring title is just a trinket like the others. The lineal title is still the only one that matters.

Right, but atm it is the defacto creator of linearity. So.... how is linearity created if not going by The Ring? Total unification? 2/3 (or 3/4) of alphabet belts?
