also, his defense is pretty underated....just cause he aint back peddling with his elbow hiding his chin, or bending below the waste, dont mean he had a bad defenst....he was tought to slap punches away with his glove so that he can shoot a quicker counter punch.......

His defence in the Rosario fight is excellent. He stands right in the eye of the storm against an explosive puncher, and hits without getting hit. Superb.

not that he did it on purpose, but i hate when people do that....they categorize him as one of the "greatest mexican fighters ever" and then people say "well there hasn't been that many mexican greats, so chavez must be a bum" :fire

And JCC shut him down and shut him out. I cannot speak highly enough of that performance, for me it is boxing beauty in its purest form. Chavez looks unbeatable, he is relentless, elusive, measured, and vicious all at the same time. It is one of my favourite displays - and I'm not even a huge JCC fan really. That one stands out though.

He had the talent to be one he showed that at 130 but a Rosario left hook turned him into a runner,he also lost all of his biggest fights(im not counting SRL or Duran cause those fights were jokes).

I probably wouldnt even have him on the top 200 of all time.

Chavez may have had the greatest maintained accuracy mid-combination I've ever seen. It's frightening how precise he was. His defense was excellent, his ability to cut off the ring was as good as anyone in the history of the sport, he had heavy hands, an iron chin, underrated handspeed, and relentless, intelligent pressure. The man was a machine at his best.

Very true. he ruined macho man and turned him into an ugly fighter. Rosario was one of my fave fights.

great description of the man and his boxing skills. I also think it's important to note that JCC never tried to win a boxing contest, he never tried to win on points. He was intent on breaking you down and stopping you.
