I agree. Look, Wlad/Haye was all about machismo. This fight actually helps out the heavyweight picture.
i have to disagree. I do rate povetkin ahead of chagaev right now but even assuming povetkin would agree to fight wlad on such short notice, he doesn't bring the Ring Title fight and perhaps the WBA strap. Povetkin is on deck anyways. Ruiz isn't worth debating :bart
If he's healthy, It's not a bad fight for a last minute replacement. Still not a great match up, but as a last minute thing its decent. But, I tend to think he's not healthy. I find it hard to believe that Finish doctors have some sort of strange interest in preventing boxing.
No, Chagaev is not too sick to fight. He failed to disclose that he still has small quantities of Hepatitis in his system... this is not an issue when fighting Wlad as Wlad has been immunized against 'the hep'.
expect a thread titled, "It's only seven weeks. Wlad is a *****" any minute now. Then, it will be 10 weeks
I don't see how it can be for the WBA. I know the situation with the WBA which is what I explained above - I know Chagaev was never going to pass a Swiss medical with his Hep B and therefore Valuev gets to keep his belt. I also know that Chagaev is the true WBA champion. But officially, he isn't. Therefore this isn't a unification and therefore it shouldn't and couldn't be for The Ring belt either. Rightly or wrongly, Chagaev failed a medical and was pulled on those grounds. That make's Valuev look innocent, so they couldn't possibly strip him of his belt given that Chagaev failed to maintain his obligation of fighting Valuev.
How is Chagaev any different from Ibragimov? They're both small, southpaw counterpunchers who are boring as hell. Wlad is going to give another boring performance pawing with his jab. Not to mention Chagaev is sick with Hepatitis. Who's Wlad going to fight next? A boxer with AIDS?
That's Don King for you. There was no reason for the fight not to be made in Germany given both guys are based and fight there. The only reason it was made in Finland is because Chagaev was never going to pass a medical, and therefore King knew that Valuev wouldn't have to risk his belt in the ring that night. That's Don King and boxing for you. The corruption underneath it is all is on a level you wouldn't believe.
