I feel that beating Wlad is an issue of generalship - controlling distance and tempo.

Whether you agree or disagree, do you think Chagaev has the neccessary tools and the generalship to deploy them?

    What are the said tools?

I'm excited by the way. Looking forwards to it. Relieved that something is coming off on this date as I ducked a wedding to watch the fight

I don't think Chagaev has the tools.
Wlad is too tall, and knows how to use that reach too well.
Ring generalship won't stop him. You need to make him uncomfortable. You need power. Raw unyielding merciless power. The kind of Power that will make Wlad think twice before clinching.
You need to deliver that power, so a little bit of speed will help too. If you have some ring generalship that's good, but without a punch, Klitschko will jab and grab you to death.

Yes, he does. He fought a masterful fight against Valuev who is much bigger than Wlad, and has power. I forsee a technical fight, but a good one.

The question is what happens if Chagaev wins the first 3 or 4 rounds? That has never happened to Klitschko. How will he react and fight being behind?

I think this has the potential to be a very good fight despite what all the Haye nuthuggers are saying.

Interesting thought. Can't see it though.

I want to know how he gets in and/or makes Wlad fight at a pace that is faster than he wants - and can he even sustain this? Chagaev is the more mobile of the two. I could see him manuevering well and forcing Wlad onto the front foot before counterpunching with a straight punch, but this will surely make Wlad super-cautios, failing to move in to quickly or hastily even when Ruslan parks. It could be horrible, if fascinating. Is he going to be looking at body work? Or punching up from a crouch? Hmmmm.

Affective aggression, stamina and decent defense can give Wladimir a lot of trouble. It's all about pressure and being able to take what Wladimir throws back, that I believe can get him tired as the fight goes then slowly take over. Sam Peter was VERY close but lacked defense, speed, skills, movement and still made it look tough.

I thought Brewster will be able to do something in the rematch but couldn't get anything done and was outclassed from start to finish in one sided fashion.

    Fair.

The thing is, Ruslan looked pretty poached against Skelton who wasn't even hitting him that much or that hard. He looked tired in that fight. He's done six okayish rounds in the 18 months since....i am not convinced he can keep up a mobile, busy plan for 12 rounds.

Before his achillies injury it would have been more interesting because Chagaev had good movement he has decent movement now but I think he lost a little with that injury.

Chagaev also has decent head movement and he is a Southpaw which Wlad has had trouble(s) with in the past. If Chagaev can get inside like he did against Valuev (I realize Klitschko is way faster and better than Valuev) the fight could be interesting.

Both fighters can cut too so that will be something to watch out for.

If Chagaev is aggressive and he makes Wlad fight (something Manny kept repeating Haye would do) it can be an interesting fight from a technical perspective.

I think Wlad wins but if he has an off night or Chagaev shows up at his 100% best the fight will be very interesting.

    :good

to be fair though that was Chagaev's first fight back after a bad injury......

but I do understand your point.

That is my feeling also, though maybe Ruslan can take enough away from him in terms of aggression to drop one on the cards.

The frustrating thing is I honestly believe that a fit, healthy Chagaev without the rust he's gathered these past two years could beat Wlad.

He obviously believes he is in shape...we shall see!

Chagaev doesn't have what it takes.

Losing to Wlad is an issue of ring generalship. Beating him is an issue of affective aggression. :yep

If you are Chagaev you have nothing to lose I would be very aggressive standing on the outside is suicide against Wlad. Chagaev can't just stand there like a lot of Klitschko's opponents have done in the past he has to move.

I would have him come out with some Corrie Sanders like blitzkrieg pressure and see how Wlad reacts and adjust from there.

You can't get discouraged either if plan A is not working go to plan B. The problem with a lot of the fighters that have faced Klitschko is they do not have a plan B for when things are not going right.
