Sure, Calzaghe is the better boxer and fighter overall....BUT

if you look at what hatton has done for the sport compared to calzaghe, I bet you will be telling your grandchildren about the 25,000 brits(pacquiao fight) and the 35,000 brits(mayweather fight) hatton brought over....Hatton's fans were a great testimate to the sport as awhole.....what did calzaghe ever do for the sport? I take my hat off to Joe for his accomplishments, but Hatton helped the sport more as awhole then Joe ever did.

    Your thoughts?

Hatton. Ricky took more risks against the best, ie PAC, PBF, TSZYU

The best prime fighters JC fought were; REID, LACY and KESSLER. Maybe a few others.

I agree with the other posters. Calz was a class above in ability, but richard will be remembered as the better name.

As far as skill wise clazaghe is better then hatton, but globally hatton improved the sport compared to calzaghe imo....20 years from now people will have a better perception of hatton overall then calzaghe imo.

Hatton for sure. Whatever his limitations as a fighter he went abroad for fights straight away virtually after getting his world title. Got people hyped about international boxing rivalries. Calzaghe stayed at home his whole career and reinforced the steriotype of the paper champion. Boxing needs more Hatton's and less Calzaghe's.

Isn't Calzaghe the one who said something like boxing was a dying sport?

Not much of an ambassador to say something like that...

    Hatton is my pick.

Calzaghe upon retirement ridiculed the sport and called it dead despite the MANY big fights that could happen today. He made it look like when he retires the sport will hit the deck.

Hatton and it's not even close. Hatton actually has a personality. He has a great sense of humor. He's naturally charismatic whereas you can tell with Calzaghe he's a bit socially inept, not very natural.. not very media-friendly.. seems to try too hard... and most importantly, Hatton fights the far superior opponents.

Not even people in the UK and Wales gave a damn about Calzaghe until he beat Lacy. His own people thought he was an arrogant *****. He wasn't even the betting favorite against Lacy in his own home country. I think the Welsh/Brits only support him because he's a fellow countryman. They don't really care for Joe Calzaghe the man.

Joe Calzaghe is undefeated. Ricky Hatton has two glaring losses on his resume.. yet Ricky's the one with the legion of loyal fans who flock across the Atlantic just to see him fight. Fans like personable fighters and also fighters who take actual chances and take on the really tough fights. Ricky Hatton has fought the two best fighters of his era in Floyd and Manny.. Calzaghe hasn't even come close to taking as many risky challenges as Ricky. And unlike Ricky, he's just not very likeable outside of the ring. Joe Calzaghe simply sucks as an ambassador for boxing... or maybe only in comparison to Ricky.

I don't knw if it's 'dead', but it's certainly dying due to people like him. PAC's ascent and Money-May coming back will hopefully breath some life into it.
