Even if it does (1% chance) there would be exactly 0 power punches.

Compubox would have a field day.

If the two of them really want to settle who is the best, I have no problem with it. If someone finds the possibility of one man potentially killing another morbid only because it's his kin rather than a stranger, then I believe they are putting a bit too much weight on familial relation. What David Haye says about boxing being a sport much like any other is something I tend to agree with. It's certainly more violent than most, but the principle is ultimately the same.

i come from a good family and was taught about things such as loyalty, honor, dignity and other archaic concepts. i understand not everyone had the luxury of such an upbringing so not everyone is going to see the perversion in the spectacle disguised as sport.

If this is the case then The Ring should hold off declaring the winner of Klitschko v Chagaev the champion because the only reason they were prepared to make the exception is that they said they'd never fight one another.

It's utterly ridiculous that Ring would declare the winner of this fight their champion, regardless.

In fact, it's almost as bad as when Vitali and Sanders fought for the Ring belt.

    :patsch

The only way a new Ring champion should be named is if:
    A. Wlad and Vitali square off
    B. Wlad or Vitali loses and the other brother faces his conqueror (assuming the conqueror is borderline worthy of a top five spot going into the bout).

But Klitschkos fighting each other is moot.

Technically it is in their rules to, under exceptional circumstances, allow 1 and 3 to fight to fill a vacant championship but I totally understand people's objections to it. I think I'm going to write to The Ring and I suggest others do too. They actually listen to the fans.

Agreed, but do you think Wlad-Chagaev is really worthy of Ring Championship caliber?

I sure don't. I reckon Wlad will make easy work of Chagaev for a mid-round stoppage. Even though I believe Wlad would have stopped Haye in the 2nd, I think that fight had more potential than this one.

I expect Wlad to wear him down in typical fashion, and would be utterly shocked if Chagaev won, and I'd even be surprised if he has more than a few good moments.

I still think both fighters deserve credit for making this fight happen, but don't see this as a worthy fight for establishing a new lineage.

    I'm aware of their rules.

I just think it's ridiculous to even elevate Chagaev to that status. His claim to fame is winning debatable decisions against Valuev (I scored that a draw) and Ruiz (could have gone either way).

The fact is, at this point in time, Wlad and Vitali are the clear choice for #1 & #2, but there is no clear choice for the #3 guy, ergo, my objections.

However, I do not believe this is as bad as awarding the winner of Vitali-Sanders the same distinction.

Yes. Don King owns 50% of Valouev and 100% of Ruiz, so this is the closest to the WBA title he can get and Chagaev is the real WBA champion, he did beat Valouev.

In Europe this fight is huge! I think Chagaev will be somewhat difficult at times, but Vlad will win this fight. I am thinking late round TKO or decision, depends. Chagaev has good chin and power. HBO is really stupid for not showing this fight. I hope Showtime shows this fight like they did Vitali Vs. Peter fight.

I've always insisted, in the case of the heavyweight division, on WBC/WBA/IBF unification in order to establish new lineage. I know, due to the politics, this has become extremely difficult. The Ring no longer recognise the alphabets within their championship policy but I still think it's the best way. After lineage has been established, the belts become less important.

Never forget that Don King owns 50% of Valouev and 100% of Ruiz.
