A past prime DLH and Hernandez and Corrales, Hatton and Castillo certainly are not on the same plain as Buchanan, Elorde, Saldivar, Ortiz and Locche.

And DLH rates higher than Locche, Ortiz and Buchanan? According to who? That might be the consensus in the general forum, I highly doubt it would be here where people actually bother to look at things historically and burst out of the bubble of the present.

And I'm not sure a prime let alone a 34 year old DLH is better than Vasquez at 154. Vasquez would have absolutely murdered the DLH Floyd fought, who ran out of puff from throwing 30 punches per round. Can you imagine what shape he would be in with Vasquez banging his body for about 8 rounds?

How is he more defensively varied? Locche has the most intricate defense of any fighter imo. DLH was clearly past his prime and there's no way you can deny it. He had looked average since the time of the Sturm fight.

Nearly everyone thinks he struggled with DLH and Floyd dominated how many rounds? About 2?

The fight was close, and if you can't see that its you who can't score a fight.

Saldivar is way more skilled than Castillo. And not only is he more skilled, he has quicker hands and feet as well.

 

Mayweather should have fought Casamayor at 130. He has been average for years now. Of course, Marquez, who went even stevens with him for 11 rounds is now supposed to be Floyd's next great conquest. Give me a ****en break.

If Whitaker was a cherry picker like Floyd is he would have fought Luis Santana, not Vasquez who was brute (and unlike Terry Norris he was not getting knocked out by past prime welterweights). He then would have went back down to 147 and tried to coax Miguel Angel Gonzalez up to welterweight for a fight.

Whitaker wanted to fight Tito since the mid 90's but King didn't allow it. He also signed to fight Quartey. He wasn't a cherry picker like Floyd is, even though he probably should have fought Norris when he stopped getting DQ'ed.

 

Not only that, but it's not clear in my mind that Norris was even better than Vasquez. Norris had great physical attributes and would have been harder for Pernell to beat, but against Vasquez, who exactly would have been shocked if Vasquez Ko'ed him? He ****en got ko'ed by past his prime welterweight Simon Brown FFS and was all over the place from a jab

 

Norris was dq'ed against Santana around the time of a proposed fight. A little over year before he had been Ko'ed brutally by Simon Brown. I still would have liked to see him fight Norris in 1996 but I think he was gearing up for a fight with Quartey at the time. Can't really blame him for not facing Norris when he had unfinished business in his own weight class.

A Quartey fight would have been made had he not struggled with Rivera. They fought on the same card to give Quartey some exposure and build the fight up, but Whitaker struggled with Rivera and had to give him a rematch to clear things. By which time DLH came on the scene and Whitaker took the money fight with DLH. He of course was scheduled to fight Quartey in 98, but tested positive to coke. It's unfortunate the fight fell through, but I don't think you can accuse Pernell of dodging the fight. It's his own fault it didn't happen, but it wasn't through dint of dodging the guy that the fight didn't get made.

They weren't in the same weight class at any stage though. Beyond that point though, they were friends and the fight wouldn't have been made unless they were the only ones left to fight.

 

By the time Floyd beats Marquez and Pac and has another retirement and crying party in between Shane will be 40 years old and who knows where Cotto will be.

Personally I don't really care if he fights an ancient Mosley or a Cotto or not. To me they are little more than B+ fighters at best right now. Floyd may struggle and may lose to them, but I think he should beat them if he doesn't decline much. But that is not going to prove to me that he could beat a guy like Shane when he was in his prime, to say nothing of even better welterweights.

I wish there were guys like Quartey, DLH or Tito in their prime at the moment so we can really test him and really see what he's got, but alas, they simply aren't out there.

 

Agree with point one, though combinations were never Floyd's forte.

I think Buchanan will get to the stage, even if he is getting hit, where he will eventually become comfortable with taking some shots to land some of his own, and so he should be able to get in some good stuff late in the fight. I don't really see Floyd suffering from stamina issues or anything. Buchanan of course had excellent conditioning, but Floyd does too and so it won't be an issue of Floyd tiring and letting Ken back into the fight. Ken will raise his game, as he normally did and take more risk, like he did against Laguna, Watt, Navarro, Duran etc. near the end of fights.

 

Cotto's hands are way faster than Hatton's, are you being serious? Hatton is faster at closing the distance but in no other way is he faster.

As for Cotto having poor defense, it is rather poor, but Ricky Hatton has NO defense.

Not sure if Tszyu takes Cotto in 2005, probably does given that Cotto doesn't have that great a punch resistance. But I think Tszyu of 2005 takes Hatton of 2009 no problem. Given a neutral ref he may well have beaten him in 2005 as well, but we'll never know for sure.

2. Your wrong, DLH was throwing 60punches a round not 30 and he just took out Mayorga who was around the level of Vasquez (waits for hails of abuse )

3. FMJ is better at parrying and using defensive footwork (which is quicker too) over Loche

4. Watch the fight again Floyd probably outlands DLH by 3-1, although the official figure are 2-1, many shots that looked like they landed didnt

5. Salvidar isnt amazingly skilled, hes basic, maybe slightly more than JLC but its negligable in any match up. And Salvidar isnt fast and neither is Castillo. The main issue is FMJ wouldn't be giving up 15lbs of bodymass and would have massive reach/height advantages, hell with those advantages he straight up stops Salvidar

 

Cotto handspeed doesn't have any handspeed, Hatton's are relatively quicker, Cotto is the better more compact puncher ofcourse. Hatton's footspeed is the big difference he makes fighters fight at his range (except). Talking about defense, Malignaggi landed at will on Cotto winning 3-5rounds but didn't land on Hatton

I don't think Tyszu beats a 2009 Hatton or wins on a neutral ground, 1 of the keys was he was often beaten to the punch BECAUSE HATTON HAD FASTER HANDS AND FEET, alongside Hatton's intensity/pressure.

 

How do you figure, Casa was irrelevant until the Freitas fight in 2002 (which he was robbed in), Floyd was moving to face the top LW at the same time, there paths didnt quite cross. It should also be noted Freitas the 'winner' didnt want any part of Floyd

You wish there were guys like Quartey, DLH and Tito. You mean 1 guy who throws a 1 paced left jab and little more, 1 guy who likes to flury and lacks head movement, and another who has no boxing skills and little but a heavy left hook?

 

Hatton was getting tagged plenty by Tszyu. Seemed more punch resistant then than he does now. Was Lazcano beating him to the punch too with his great speed? How did Callazo who couldn't punch a hole through a piece of bread nearly take him out?

 

I figure it because he was WBA champ since 2000. If Floyd wanted to unify, as some people do that are interested in cleaning divisions out, Casamayor should have been on his itinerary.

Personally I would have liked to have seen Floyd fight Stevie Johnston the most (prior to the Castillo fights). I thought Stevie got the better of Jose twice, the first time, quite clearly. Of course, Floyd wasn't stepping up to lightweight so they missed each other. I don't blame him for that. He should have been trying to clean out 130 first anyway.

 

Yeah those limited guys that are by far better than anyone Floyd has even bothered to fight.

 

Hatton wasnt getting as tagged or as clean against Tyszu as he was against, Pacquaio just had the speed/countering ability/southpaw style and footwork to make Ricky pay for the mistakes he makes, Tyszu didn't. Your implying Ricky's punch resistance has decreased. If you watched him pre-Tyszu you'd know Tackie had him reeling in the last round, where he hung on for dear life, Phillips had him hurt, and Magee had him down. At the end of the day though toe-toe pressure fighters are going to get buzzed in the sport of boxing
