You could say the Twin Sullivan's, Jack & Mike. in 1908. See this would depend on what source your going by. Ketchel claimed the Middleweight title in 1907 and defended it against both Sullivan's in 1908. You can also say the Forbes brothers Harry & Clarence Forbes in 1899. Harry lost to Terry McGovern, in a bout that was billed for the World title at 118lbs. AND Clarence fought a draw with Casper Leon for the World Bantamweight Title. The Attell's come close to BUT Abe was the Champion the years Monte fought for the title.
These are fair points and I realised the Sullivan's could be the answer (depending on sources/claims). They weren't the brothers i had in mind though, due to debatable claims. The answer to my question were both in their first shots at the world title, both title shots 100% official regardless of source.
I just got home, this is another question all together. Without looking, the Davis brothers in 1982 comes to mine, BUT it could be earlier then that. I even thought it might be the Everett's BUT their a year a part. As far as George Daniel goes, some sources do have him being killed after the Bill fight BUT it can't be verified.
It's not really a totally new question, basically it's brothers who challenged for world title in same year: wbc/wba. Call it 'world' title if you want, every source, universal claim etc etc. I don't know of any other champs during this time.

So your saying that it happened before Eddie and Johnny Davis in 1982 and 1 fought for the WBA title and the other fought for the WBC.
Yes before Davis. World title. Both men fighting champions who had universal claims as the world title holder(s).

My orignal question: The first brothers to challenge for a world title in the same year? Ok, if you want Forbes' or the Sullivan's, then fine. But these challengers were fighting for the world title, regardless of source vs the official world champions. Now i'd say undisputed but you may come out with a claim that it wasn't in Pennsylvania (or something) so I won't. Every source says these were world title fights and the challengers are the brothers. No dispute, nothing. Each world title claim by the respective champions were as legit as, say, Carlos Monzon or Sugar Ray Robinson.
