Do you think he has recovered mentally from the Beating from Margarito? I still say hes prime but this will be his first major fight since that Margo fight do you think hes carrying some demons? Or do you think Cotto will reestablish his place back in the pound for pound list?
I think we may see the mental and physical effects of the Margarito fight. I hope that doesn't happen to Cotto, but I have a feeling it may be the case.
The way he talks about the Margarito loss shows that he's moved on from it. Very mature, classy approach.
There's no way to know if that Margarito fight will affect him until we see him against Clottey. When he's in that ring in another situation where he's being pressured, then we will know.
That's what I'm looking forward to. After the Margarito beating this is the first real test and Clottey is a good opponent though overrated. To beat Cotto you got to have aggression, activity and a decent chin. Clottey tends to wait a lot in there which is why I would be picking Cotto by UD, a body KO from Cotto won't surprise me either. Clottey is a terrible finisher too so even if he gets Cotto rocked/hurt don't expect him to follow up well or take advantage of it, he tends to run out of gas when forced to be active too. The guy had a blown up, beyond shot and coming off two physically damaging losses Corrales OUT of it since round 7 of their fight and he couldn't get the job done. Clottey is good but just a bit overrated here.
I think the worst ting is knowin margo is banned and the what if???? Must be thinkin bout it all the time. I don't think his beatin was that bad not like lacy.
I think he recovered,he's an eite fighter and he definetely still is in his prime. Since I watched Cotto I thought he had what it takes to become an HOFer and an ATG,altough I'm doubting the ATG part now he still is elite.
It wasn't as bad as Lacy but both are damaging and Cotto always had issues taking a punch even before fighting Margarito, can only expect it to get worse after that one.
you guys keep making this out to be a luis resto billy collins senerio ... it isn't .. cotto didn't get beat from pillar to post for 10 straight rounds before going to a decision ..this is a guy who fought tooth and nail blow for blow toe to toe with a guy with loaded gloves .. and the guy had to fight life and death just to keep cotto off him !!... this isn't something that'd damage someones confidence ...it's the exact opposite
Cotto was losing hope starting in round 4 and it was obvious. When he realized he can't keep this man off with his power he started to **** up and leave his self open for punches. Cotto was winning the fight but mentally he was broken down, that kind of beating doesn't give confidence.
I'm reluctantly starting to agree with most of this. What's strange is that if Clottey goes out and does his best Margarito impression, there is a live chance he gives Cotto hell. He's got better all around speed, a better straight right, and shorter uppercuts than Margarito. But it's just not his nature to be hyper aggressive, which means Cotto will have room to operate, especially early in the fight. Add in the crowd factor, and it's easy to see a scenario where Cotto is up 5-1 after 6, drops a round or two, catches his second win and gets the decision. I'm not counting Clottey out though at all. He doesn't have one punch KO power, but he does lots of damage. Judah and Corrales looked beat the hell up after four rounds, and it looked like Margarito had been through a meat grinder. If Cotto starts swallowing blood early, it could get ugly for him quick.
