The two bad boys of the heavyweight Division. Who would win this fight where neither fighter would back down? 15 rounds. or 12. ( I doubt it would go that far).

I think this is a bad match up for Mike.

I like Liston in a late stoppage.

Both great fighters. I would say Tyson is slightly better, overall, but Liston's style is all wrong for Mike. More times than not, Sonny would win this matchup...in my opinion.

I agree with those who picked Liston. He's one of the very few who matches up well against Tyson.

I personally think that Floyd Patterson and by extention Mike Tyson had the style to beat Sonny Liston but Patterson lacked the durability to complete the task. If there is anything that bothers Sonny Liston its speed. And Tyson had lots of it not to mention the firepower that exceeded that of Sonny himself.

Tyson had the speed, chin, stamina and the power to get the job done.

I got Tyson in 7 rounds.

Yeah, but not the footwork to stick & move to stay away from Sonny's bombs. like a Patterson or Ali. Stamina?? Tyson usually burns out after about 6 rounds.

Ali and Holmes had the style to beat Liston, not Tyson.

Patterson wasn't durable but he was just as fast or faster than Tyson and got bombed out twice in the first round. Liston had no trouble finding his range and taking him out with ease. Tyson was super durable, especially compared with Patterson, but Liston was a big puncher and one can infer from the Patterson fights that he wouldn't have much trouble finding Tyson.

The thing Tyson has going for him is his speed. Listons hands were average speed and Tyson could beat him to the punch, but so could Patterson and he failed to land anything significant on Sonny.

I'm a big Tyson fan but Liston along with Holyfield are the worst matchups for him.

Patterson was also very intimidated by Liston. The last thing he wanted to do was attack.

You get a lot of people picking guys ovewr Tyson and saying 'this is a bad matchup stylistically for Mike', and most of the time i disagree, that term is so overused against Tyson it's ridiculous, but here i must say that this is a bad matchup stylistically for Mike.

I do think that Tyson can win it though simply on what HE can do, in terms of his ability, but i think i'm picking Liston

    Very true.

But the fact remains Patterson and Tyson have close to the same style and we saw how Patterson was dismantled. The only things that make it interesting is that Tyson is more durable than Patterson, and is a more lethal puncher.

Who has the stronger chin? Whoever that is is going to win.

Was Cus in Floyd's corner when Liston bounced him off the canvas?

Cus didn't want his fighters taking on Liston type fighters.

I don't like the style of either fighter. However, I'd lean towards Liston inside 6 rounds.

I dunno about this one. Part of me wants to say Liston, but I know in terms of size, he's no bigger, or may be even smaller than Tyson. Plus he's not really a guy who uses a lot of footwork and ring movement; he stays right and front of you and uses the jab and right hands. I really don't know. My first instinct is that a guy who isn't any bigger than Tyson who's gonna stand right in front of him, and has more-or-less a traditional boxing style, is probably going to get eaten up. Then again Liston has a long reach and a powerful jab, good uppercuts, etc. I guess this is a pick-em fight for me.
