just watched the movie cinderella man, about james braddock so got me thinking what fighter had the most amazing backstory or went through some hard stuff in his life? i know our sport is filled with incredible stories, but i would prefer if they made it to championship level either fought for or won a title i'll start of kassim ouma (former child soldier in ugandan civil war)
Fernando Angulo (orphaned as a child, lived as a wild child in the jungle until his teens). Edison Miranda has a similar story to Angulo, only somehow it's not quite as strange being a homeless orphan in a city as opposed to living off the jungle.
but both of their back stories were of their own poor decision making. the others mentioned were true stories of overcoming severe adversity that was not of their choosing.
is it sarcism? sorry if i'm a bit slow, but those are just run of the mill boxing stories nothing extraordinary
nate campbell and bernard hopkins have very similar stories, very difficult childhood, jail, problems with promoters and establishment and both still kicking ass at old age
Jack Johnson. His own country hated him and did everything in its own power to discredit him and make him a pariah.See Ken burns' documentary. It's pretty damn good.
