Cheers, regarding film, its ok, its rare i watch actual TV. Usually boxing vids/dvds on and on silent. Good background. Cheers for the heads Slip....same as last week you linked some boxing at stupid AM....... i watched. Cheers :thumbsup
Think this is a brilliant film. Was holding back the tears when he had to go and beg the promoters for money/another fight (Was a long time ago that I watched it)
You say it like you know him personally, Genghis Khan has always been badly portrayed, hes really a top fella!!
Baer was a great fella though, & out of respect to him & his family I have never watched this film. Would anyone like it if a member of their family who was a good person was made to like like an evil ***** just to make a good film when the person was no longer here to defend themselves? This is boxing history were talking about here, & for movie makers to rewrite boxing history just to make money... It dont sit right with guys like me.
Dunky, i agree somewhat and its one of the reasons the movie bumbed at the box office due to backlash from historians and the jewish community (max was a jewish activist) Baer was no way near to how they portrayed him according to historians and those who knew him, plus they said he killed 2 men in the ring when in fact it was only one (a tragic event which could happen to any fighter, he had nighmeres about it and helped his family financially) btw i think apart from that the movie was pretty good.
Im glad you agreed with me Slip, if only somewhat I just cant bring myself to watch the film though, knowing that they vilified a good man. I would rather be earning and learning at the skill centre.
Two of the main reasons it tanked was that it was released in the summer and had to go up against the blockbusters ('Awards worthy' pictures are usually released later in the year when it is quieter) and mainly due to Crowes behaviour whilst on the promotional tour when he attacked some hotel worker, shame really as the movie is very well made although wholly inaccurate when relating to Baer, Max's son was not best pleased with his fathers portrayal understandably
I knew Pol Pot and he was a quality geezer, always up for a laugh and a few beers. Can't believe the rep. he got.
Watched it last night and the same thing happened. When he went to the promoters I was welling up. Great film.
The main reason why it tanked was the title (Cinderella Man) in relation to the target audience. And as you say, the release date.
