i like wilfredo gomez's story and pacman's. both grew up in poverty and lived very hard lives and became superstars.
yeah, johnson's story was incredible but what really made it was the times (how the **** did he not get killed?) anyway haven't seen the doc but i've read "unforgivable blackness" really good book
Edison Miranda gets my vote, with Tapia a close second, (just read mi vida loca),,allthough I guess as a role model of overcoming adversity,,and because of his age I'd mention B-hop to. I forget who the kid soldier from Africa who escaped to box is called,,,anyone ? Edit - Sorry just reread the original posts,,thanks man,,Ouma,,,,and shitin hell just realised all these have been mentioned already, soz
ain't that the typical fighters story? not really like being forced to chop people's limbs off as a 6 year old
michael gomez(former khan opponent) has an interesting story ie drugs, stabbings murder. And what about what happened to michael nunn

For a second I thought you meant Alfredo Angulo. Yeah Mirandas story was pretty bad you can almost sense his anger in the ring the way he swings its kinda vicious. I think any Cuban fighter has a rough backstory in how they have to leave everything behind and never return.
Lamont Peterson actually has a pretty crazy story as homeless kid. But most of the ones I would suggest have already been mentioned. Tapia, Battlin Siki, Stanley Ketchel (homeless and rode the rails cross country looking for fights as a teenager later became middleweight champ and even fought heavyweight champ jack johnson and knocked him down before getting KO'd), Mike Tyson who I'm suprised no one has mentioned, and Roberto Duran as well who I'm suprised no one has mentioned.
Miranda chased down cats and ate them to survive. That is hardcore. I hope he takes care of his financial side of the business and retires with a nice nest egg. I hate to see guys like him make and it end up with nothing.
Matthew Saad Muhammad's story is brutal. His aunt takes him and his brother in and decides she can't afford both of them. She tells his brother to take Matthew and ditch him somewhere. His brother takes him all the way to Benjamin Parkway and runs off. Muhammad winds up somehow in the hands of some nuns and goes on to become one of the toughest action fighters of his day. I hope Igot all the details right.
