An unbiased posting about Ottke

Its is no common thing on ESB. Regarding to some posters Ottke was the reincarnation of evil :D

    oh please a shot eubank...

eubanks was barely 31 and coming off 2 devastating KO wins when he fought a relatively GREEN calzaghe(who completely outboxed him like no ever had flooring him twice in the process)past his best yes,but still a dangerous fighter at the top of his game..

Ottke is more respectable boxer than Calzaghe.

Thats because most of the posters here haven't seen him fight and just repeat the same lines from other posters to bolster their point.

we can agree here, eubanks was not at his best, and prime eubanks sparks him out but that is subjective to the viewer

  7. Apart from a dodgy SD vs Hopkins, there careers are very similar.

And Ottke WAS the number 1 in the division

9 times out of 10 in a prime for prime scenario calzaghe wins..

apart from the fact you overlook calzaghes relative "green'ness" and inexperience as a top tier fighter at the time, the question should be did eubank fight a prime calzaghe??most would agree that calzaghe seems to have hit his prime during his 30's no? albeit without the punching power he carried earlier in his career, couple that with the way he beat eubank i.e in a dominating and extremely precocious manner, fighters like benn/watson/rochigianni/collins etc never came close to beating eubank in the maner joe did...

Records aside, I know who I would rather watch. I watched a few of ottke's fights, and they werent exactly the most fun viewing! And damn reid beat his ass I dont care what the records say. But then again, in my opinion, calz should have found RJJ etc way earlier in his career. Damn I used to like watching eubank, even when he lost to calz it was funny after the knockdown watching hime shake his head like, this aint gonna be that easy son

There is no comparison. Ottkes performance against Robin Reid was pathetic.I thought he was going to burst into tears at any moment because Reid was unsportingly hitting him very hard around the coupon. :|

Because of one (really shitty) fight there is no comparison? That is nonsense... Take of your british sunglasses and try to be objective.

  13. Apart from Collins he faced those fighters Benn, Watson etc... about 5/6/7 years before facing Joe

Eubanks Prime was arouund 90-94 he was a good 3 years past his BBD he had fought twice in the two years coming up to the Joe fight and took it with two weeks notice. even though Joe was green Chris was no where NEAR his best and I would say close to shot.

Of course his Chris's pride and chin will always make a good fight but he was a shell of his 90-94 self

The Reid fight was when Ottke was 36, and he subsequently retired because of his performance there (after a farewell fight with Kranjc). Other than that, he was a dominant fighter in the sense of dominating other fighters with his DEFENSE, not allowing them to connect on him almost the whole fight. His offense was pure amateur boxing, scoring only, and with the help of knowing the score during the fight. He was ok to watch for the first 2/3 of his career, before he went downhill riding the scorecards to the utmost. He just wasn't an offensive fighter, full stop. Calzaghe is a totally different animal as a fighter, whom I rate higher head-to-head by a good margin. Careerwise, he did more only in the last couple of fights, when he was hardly in his prime anymore.

the fight was took with 2 weeks notice yes but eubanks was in training for a fight at the time..

i disagree with you on eubanks prime, past his best yes but at 31 still a dangerous opponent..
