Ideal scenario today, Setanta call news conference at 12 noon, Setanta survives, and completes a partnership with another big player like ESPN etc. All new subscriptors are welcome to join up again today. I can get my Setanta in on Satalite in time for the Cotto-Clottey fight. Plus there is a massive bumper show on Buncey's boxing hour to celebrate a victory for boxing fans....fingers crossed.

Not too sure about that. Sky are only allowed to have some of Setanta's games from the 2009/2010 season, and none after that. They wouldn't gain much, plus it would bring the spectre of the regulator breathing down their necks due to lack of competition.

This has been explained to gasman previously (along with the fact that it Sky is not a bank and to suddenly decide to go into the banking business for the purposes of granting a loan to a business as unhealthy as Setanta would be reckless, probably in breach of various regulatory statutes and potentially expose the directors of Sky to legal action by their shareholders) but he still seems to think that Sky should be financially assisting Setanta for some reason.

    ???

How did you infer that I think Sky should be financially assisting Setanta? I am questioning Sky's claim that they don't want to see Setanta going under, no more than that. Although, I now take on board the point made by another poster regarding the anti-competition lobby.

Setanta are the victim of a completely backwards business model. Supporting some of the smaller, but growing sports, was a sensible approach. It was building a loyal following but, as normal, football ruined everything.

Still broadcasting. Online and telephone subscriptions have been shut down. Reports say that talks between directors and backers are ongoing.
