I think Tito is bigger, stronger and more durable than Cuevas. It would be mid rounds by the time Hearns got Tito out, say round 6 ish. I would be very surprised if he got the **** beaten out of him and knocked out early.
Tito's defence was pourous, he wouldn't have the usual size advanatge he had at 147, he could be dropped and hurt, and Hearns is a nightmare for him....fast, can box, can hit.......he's Trinidad times 3.
9 times out of 10 most likely...but along with Tito, Col was one of the hardest punchers since Cueves. He is a live chance of knocking out anyone at the weight without a granite beard.
This is one of those fights that I can genuinely imagine going either way. It is nothing madeany easier because I personally liked both guys greatly. We all know that Tito would hit the deck in this fight. The question is will he stay down. I doubt it. Both at their very best perhaps Curry on points. The problem is I doubt Curry would be at his very best so I would if pushed suspect Tito would win. He is also the more legendary fighter. Please note this is a pick with serious misgivings as it can really go either way.
Gut feeling tells me Tito by late KO whilst being behind on the cards and close to being stopped himself in the early rounds. Can see Curry knocking Tito out and winning a decision too. If they had a series of fights I can envision various different endings.
I find it funny that people say Tito was underrated when Curry was way more underrated than Tito. Curry's had talent on another level than Trinidad. At his best, Curry could give guys like Leonard and Hearns a run for their money because of his speed, boxing ability and explosive power. Curry blew out most of his competition at WW. As far as durability goes, Curry was KTFO'd after he started to decline. There is no shame in getting knocked out by a prime Mike McCallum, especially since Curry was winning the fight. The same goes with a prime Terry Norris. Curry had a good chin. I have seen Tito get buzzed more times than Curry. Tito has been buzzed by non-punchers. I've only seen Curry buzzed by big hitters. I think most of the voters here aren't very familiar with The Cobra.
Well Curry can outbox him no doubt, i just don't see it translating to a win on his record though, Trinidad by stoppage for me.
I honestly don't think that Curry was as technically sound as Vargas, who i feel talent wise, is one of the best junior middleweights of all time. He could honestly do everything. Don't forget that Vargas boxed with Wright in the peak of his prime and not only did well, but beat him. I would take Vargas over Curry any day of the week. Joppy was skilled, and its s shame he was broken by Tito because nobody really got to see how good he really was. As far as who's more skilled between Joppy and Tito, Joppy clearly was. Trinidad was a skillful PUNCHER, but he wasn't the kind of lateral mover that Joppy was and didn't have that kind of outside boxing skills( aginst the more skilled fighters). Joppy simply fought the wrong fight, he choose to use his size and bang with Tito and of course that was a mistake. If he would have boxed and showed some foot work while established his jab( which was good) then he would have given Trinidad massive problems. Exactly the reason i choose Trinidad. :good
Not sure I agree. As Rock said, he had a tendancy to get caught sleeping early, and if a puncher like Cuevas or Jones is catching him he's not likely to recover as easily as he was with guys like Campas and Carr. I'm not sure Curry had the devastating power to take him out like those guys, but he had the accuracy and the ability to put combinations together with the best of them, which I could see stunning and wobbling Tito repeatedly if he's still tight. All in all, I agree with WhatARock on this matchup.
