That'll pail into insignificance when compared to some of the lesser scottish clubs.

Setanta sports news is a joint venture with virgin media. It was launched when Sky and Virgin were in the middle of their hissy fit and sky was refusing to provide some of its channels (Sky 1, SSN) on the virgin platform.
Setanta news was copycat version to fill the gap. :deal

Yes, they are just saying that as PR because the competition commission is currently investigating whether Sky dominant position in the Pay TV market is bad for consumers. Hmmmm

Without a doubt. If you get a tumour removed from your throat you don't go back to smoking 40 a day unless you want to die.

The sums clearly don't add up and something has to give. The problem is less content means either less subscribers or a lower price and less revenue. If the very competent setanta top brass don't have the answers then I certaintly don't

If they were to survive, and thats a big IF, then they should lose the World-wide football which can't be that popular because English football fans only really care about English football, lose the Golf channel, admit they Setanta sports news will never be popular and scrap it and finally, only bid for boxing events on an event by event basis.

Sky sports news isn't free on sky i think you have to buy the news package to get it and than you have to pay a minimum of £17 as well so SSN is my only sports news source and i think buncey's show and football matters is aired on SSN to get more viewers so they'll want too keep SSN.

Setanta doesn't look like it's going to survive though. :-(

I personally think that the Setanta Avatar thing is a load of childish bollocks. But that's just me. Dour old **** that I am.

I don't give a ******'s cuss about all of these fringe sports - although I watch them, I'm only concerned about seeing boxing.

Does anyone here think that there is a big enough fan base for boxing in the UK to make it a viable concern for any TV company to take on?

I am one of the many sad buggers who will pay to see PPV and also subscribe. I remember going to the cinema with my dad to see the big fights "live", so I'm now an officially old git.

It may be worthwhile getting some consensus from all of the UK boxing forums (fora, for the pedantic) to see if there is a groundswell worthwhile of taking this forward. Truth be known, I will, for the first time, stream the Cotto fight if need be. Surely there are more boxing fans in the UK than there are for US minority (for us) sports to make it worth progressing.

Rambling again. Bed is calling , sorry :)
