Even though I think Calzaghe should have fought Dawson before retiring this is an amazing assessment. You really have analized the fighters involved rather than going by name or resume.

    Fantastic post! :thumbsup

    Dawson, close but clear.

Calzaghe has never fought a fighter like Dawson. Simple as. Some dumby compares Dawson to Kessler and Jones lol? Kessler is a robotic 1-2 punch fighter. Jones is shot and only throws one punch at a time, cant double anything up, and spends about the majority of the fight resting against the ropes.

Meanwhile, Dawson has enough power to hurt a cruiserweight in Adamek. When I look at this fight, the only advantage I see for Calzaghe is activity, and against guys like Lacy, Kessler and an old bhop that might be enough. But against a young lion like Dawson, no. Dawson is stronger, he's atleast just as fast, he's bigger, longer, he holds every physical advantage imagineable in this fight. Every punch that Dawson throws, will hurt calzaghe. These wont be slow looping punches like Lacy, they wont be easily timed predictable Kessler punches, these will be punches that will be thrown from multiple angles, by a fighter with a near 5 inch reach advantage.

Calzaghe maybe a few years ago, but not now.

Good post. Think it would be a bit closer on the scorecards though.

It would be an ugly and boring fight thanks to dawson's boring style and calzaghe's ugly style

Calzaghe is very intelligent and works out every single oponent he has faced , No matter how skilled they were, Dawson is a immense talent no doubt, This fight would be a classic, Dawson loves his space to wor of his jab and circles around his oponent brilliant i have watched very closely, Calazaghe would make this fight at close range neutralising Dawson punching range, I see the fight split decision to Calzaghe, With Calzaghe hitting the canvas again, And probably more stunned than ever, I see thereafter him fighting cautiously slipping and ducking close and firing faster medium power combo+slaps (hard slaps) Dawson has been in deep waters with Johnson and showed the will and determination to ekk out a close deserved decision, Dawson chin is Solid same as Joes, brill fight this would be and wouldnt be surprised if Dawson also won by split this is how close this fight is , peace

I've gone over this fight in my head for about 2yrs know and as great as calz is/was Dawson gives him a solid beating over 12rnd, sorry but I just don't see joe slapping his way out of this one.
