I was thinking about this because while he does have impressive names on his resume (Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, De la hoya, etc). Who has he beat that was considered the man to beat in the division when he fought them ? So yes mayweather is a great fighter, but to me he has not always fought the best competition available.

Corrales was considered the man at 130 and favored over Floyd there. At 135 Castillo was considered the best in the world.

What makes these wins great is that both these fellas had long successful careers after losing to Floyd.

All I can say is: like any other fighter, the fights he chose are logical and understandable. Same as any other fighter.
... come to think of it, maybe that's why valero might never see a big-name fight. :(

No one is going to argue that up to and including 135 - Floyd was on track to forge an untouchable legacy.

After that - Well not so much.

You could argue he did below 140 lbs.

Of course. How could anyone doubt the P4P credability of Baldomir and Gatti.

Carlos Baldomir was the lineal champ at 147lbs, and the Ring Champion at that weight.

A logical fight choice for someone looking to become a champion in that division.
