he is only 25 and has already had a good career winning the wba light weight title at age 21 unifying it with the wbo and ibf and has only 2 loses he is only going to get better in the years to come
He might... with the best fighters vacating the lightweight division he might very well rule that division for years to come if he decides to still campagin at 135.. although I don't think the beatings he took from Campbell and Marquez are going to help his with his longevity.
It's funny. I like Juan Diaz, but I really figured the end of this thread title was going to say worse, not better. He has been outhustled and knocked out. Obviously he can still beat most lighweights, but that isn't better than when he ruled the division. I always figured he'd give boxing up once he graduated college...
Nah, he fights the same way he did when he was 21. Too one-dimensional and not enough physical talent to change.
I'm a huge Juan Diaz fan, but, I tend to think he has already reached his peak and will start on a slide. He took lots of clean shots from both Campbell and JMM. His lack of power, all out punching style doesn't make for a long career. And against a good counter puncher who he can't overwhelm, I think he'll continue to have issues. That doesn't mean he won't pepper Malignaggi from pillar to post, because he will. Malignaggi has no power to hurt him or slow him down. There are some potentially good fights at 135 to be made with him. Kahn, Valero and Antillon would all be great action fights.
Logically seen a person would. But he fought with the same style for all these years. So I think it's unlikely something will change in the coming years. Of course he WILL gain more experience though..
If you want to count knockdowns, Kahn has already had more than twice the career Juan Diaz has had....
I believe so too, not giving up on him at all, the guy is 25 and was a former unified champion who was giving Marquez(P4P#2) hell before falling short. Looking forward to his destruction of Malignaggi and we'll pick it up from there.
He probably beats Malinaggi, but unless he develops KO power overnight, I don't see him becoming a major factor at 140. Honestly, I'm a little surprised he's not calling it a day and going after a law degree at this point. He's made some decent money already.
He doesn't need to develop one punch KO power to go far, he has the activity and stamina. All he needs to do is add some skills, be A BIT more patient and pick his punches and he can go even further. Got to learn to be less one-dimensional and adapt when needed rather than just charge in reckless all the way.
True. I guess I just fell for the hype in all those HBO feature stories. They gave me the impression that he was trying to get out pretty soon. Climbing back up the ladder at 135 or moving to 140 probably means another two years or so boxing, at least.
Was it you or Soriano who picked Juan Diaz to stop JMM? I'm sure if it was Pac who beat Diaz in the same fashion that JMM did, your tune would be "now that Pac is at 140 lbs, 135 lbs is Diaz' for years to come!" ......and you know I speak the truth!:rofl
