He was a high volume, agressive junior welterweight champ. Sugar Shane ended his career during a sparring session. If you remember him please post. http://www.myspace.com/azusachamp
Yes, I remember seeing him on ESPN during the late 80's, but don't have time to discuss him now as my 2 year old daughter is killing me.... I'll post later..
Didn't this guy have one of the all time great work rates? Mosley gave him brain damage in sparring and that was that though. Mosley had a real nasty penchent for that in sparring. He broke Genaro Hernandez's nose in sparring and that came back to haunt Genaro against Hoya.
Yes. Padilla had victories over James Page, Danny Perez, and Roger Mayweather. I remember watching Padilla's performance against then 36-0 Carlos "Bolillo" Gonzalez and it was quite masterful. He remained right there in range the entire fight and showed excellent chin and defense while throwing nonstop. It was one of those 100 plus punches per round performances. Not a puncher, but threw a lot, and didn't mind mixing it. He and Ray Oliveira, who was similar in style, put on another punch stat record fest of punches. He then made an aging Juan LaPorte retire, somewhat significant because that was the only stoppage loss of Juan's career.
Off the charts workrate. He and Oliviera combined for over 3000 punches in their 12 round title fight, and that's still a record, I believe. Kind of like Medina and Zaragoza, too in so far as he was tough to hit with a clean punch, and never really seemed to be all that fazed when someone did manage to do so. Did hurt people so much as overwhelmed them after a while with his work rate, and that's kind of what happened with Laporte, who, while always an extremely economical puncger, just stopped throwing back when he realized he wasn't going to be able to do anything to stop Padilla from throwing punches in his direction.
she cant be that good at killing you i know people say kids are worse behaved but that is a bad behaved daughter
The above link is his myspace. I liked this guy his volume style was a little bit like J Tapia minus the insanity (lol). I wonder what would have been?
Yeah that Gonzalez fight was pretty entertaining, one of those cases where the undercard outshines the main event. Lots of punches thrown, and Padilla showed some nice skills. Some nice sequences where he landed shots and avoided the leather thrown back, but stayed in position while playing defense so he could come back with more punches. He looked pretty laid back and seemed like throwing a ton of punches was effortless for him.
zack padilla, i hear so many interesting things about him but i never him fight. i must have checked youtube at least a dozen time for his video.
When he beat Gonzales , Gonzales was a super star in the making. Zack had a good chin, good speed, and a suffocating work rate. That took Joe Calzaghe a long way, no one will know what could have been. I know he a Shane Mosley are friends so the sparring was not intentional, when it happened i don't think Mosley had turned pro, or if he had it was barely. Zack was a WBO champion.
