The Minimum Weight Division - Who Follows It?

Just Curious. I follow it because Roman Gonzalez is the #1 ranked fighter in that division and he is a big star in my country, Nicaragua. However, I would like him to move up and fight the much respected Ivan Calderon.

 

I guess they don't lol

 

I wish I was better able to follow it. The fights just aren't shown in the U.S. Frankly, I don't understand it. The assumption is that people aren't interested in seeing men that small fight; however, that doesn't stop us from getting a much greater amount of bouts from 112-130. The difference doesn't seem that pronounced to me. I want to see good fights regardless of weight.

 

I like watching the fights at minimum weight. I'm a Donnie Nietes fan.

 

Its hard to follow the division when those fights are not even shown in a regular way. Most fights I've seen have been on youtube.

 

Really, I have seen great fights at this weight. I mean, people seem to think that fighters this small don't pack a big punch but some of the guys have great KO records, Roman been one of them (22-0 with 20 KO's). Its a shame this fights aren't broadcasted. I almost always have to rely on either Youtube or a visit to the Alexis Arguello Gym in Managua, Nicaragua.

 

Cool. I'd like to see Roman and Donnie go at it. I'm sure I'll have family feud in my house since my wife is from the Philippines.

 

Yeah, that will be an very interesting fight. Or maybe Roman Gonzales vs. Florante Condes, both are huge punchers

 

Gonzalez-Sithsamerchai would be interesting, though it will probably never ever happen. Huge style contrast in that matchup, and the fight could play out just about any way.

 

<P>I love the straweights..and anything up to 118 are my favorite divisions besides cruiserwieght....there are many good fighters aout there right now...Gonzalez... Oleydong Garcia etc...the fighters are usually quick and throw good combinations,....it is terrible that networks show the other divisions so much but neglect some of the sports best athletes from 105-118.. the South African Joyi&nbsp; maybe another great fighter... he is supposed to be fighting Condes this summer in a few weeks... </P>

 

It's pretty hard to follow given they don't get much coverage. I mean I know a bit about some of the guys, such as Roman Gonzalez who I think is a good little fighter, I know of guys like Raul Garcia, Donnie Nietes, Florante Condes, Muhammad Rachman - and the Philipino dude who just beat him, can't remember who it is - Ronald Barrera, Juan Palacios etc. Just hard to follow, it's not that I don't care for the division it's just you rarely get to watch it.

 

Finito knows a good bit about the lower weights and is always posting about them. Not sure where he has been lately though

 

Gonzalez is a guy who's reputation is building- I must confess I've never seen him fight live but, from what I've heard and seen in grainy internet videos, he is more than capable of establishing himself as a force in the lower weight classes. Let's be fair though- the lower weight classes are packed with talent at the moment. As for a fight with Calderon, I don't think it would happen- Calderon likes defending his ABC title too much and like most others, fights where the money is.

 

I don't really follow the minumweights but I am a Gonzales fan :good.

Loved his performance against Niida and since then have been looking out for him. Can't wait for his next fight. Hasegawa is in the main event against a good opponent so it looks like a very good card.

 

I follow Calderon that's about it.
