That Ali book was ****in' huge. Over 500 pages if I remember correctly...

 

Ive read the dark trade book and Mike Watsons and Frank Brunos books.All were a god read.Ive also read Night train by Nick Tosche about Liston which was also very good.

 

I liked all of them. I guess I liked Dark Trade the best for its diversity. It covered several boxers and their stories (Toney, DLH, Tyson, Hamed) rather than just one.

 

The Liston book was alright, but him claiming Moore threw the Marciano fight is a big :? to me.

I also didn't need to hear that long description on the size of Sonny's genitals.

 

Ummmm....Four Kings is a good read (except when they describe Laing as a 'journeyman')

 

I thought the new Angie Dundee book "My view from the corner" was a pretty good read. Of course you gotta take Angie with a grain of salt, but there are some really interesting behind the scenes nuggets in there, especially concerning his time with Leonard.

 

Unforgiveable Blackness - the story of Jack Johnson is a must for all Classic fight fans.

Ghosts of Manilla - by Mark Kram provides a welcome change to the usual Ali eulogies, although it comes across as overly biased at times.

Sparring with Heminway & Ringside by Budd Schulberg are excellent.

The Last Great Prize Fight is good if your interest pre-dates the Marquess of Queensbury rules.

War, Baby- The story of the Benn-McClellan fight, a very good read apart from the McClellan impressions the author does. I was fascinated to read about how McClellan and the King family didn't get on at all well.

 

The last few I read were:

Adam Pollack's book on John L Sullivan...highly recommended. If you weren't a fan of Sullivan's before, you may be after this book.

Facing Tyson...Very good read, but the title is slightly misleading. If anything, it's more about some of the men who faced him. Not a bad thing at all though.

Joe Louis: The Great Black Hope by Richard Bak...I enjoyed this book, although I don't know if it's the definitive book on Louis.

I'm planning on reading Pound For Pound, the biography on Ray Robinson, soon. I started reading it, but then I got sidetracked with something else.

 

Night Train - by Nick Tosches. About Sonny Liston.

A great book !

 

The most recent biography on Robinson. I picked it up on Ebay for 99p. Bargain of the century. It's worth about £18.
