guess I better start on the welterweights, the best divison imo.

 

Wow Dempsey, that's probably the first time I've ever seen Gus Lesnevich rated above Ezzard Charles.

 

Perhaps Charles would have beating him. But Gus had such a long rein, and relly beat some amazing fighters, I could not leave him off a 1940's list.

Relly underated. Charles is over on pound for pound, but I think Gus control the era to be call the man in the 40'.

I thought you'd just forgotten him. You mean to tell me you actually rate Lesnevich above Charles at LHW? You do realize that can't be justified under any circumstances, right? Not only did Charles beat him, but so did just about every other elite fighter he faced, save for a few. Bivins, Mills, Maxim, Conn, Corbett III, Steele; pretty much all of the best fighters he fought beat him, whereas Charles stacked up one of the most impressive resumes that have ever been achieved, beating not only Gus and a few of his foils like Maxim and Bivins, but greats like Archie Moore and Lloyd Marshall as well.

Charles is light-years ahead of Lesnevich at LHW. C'mon now.

1980: Can't pick one. The division was not in existence for the whole decade and I don't think there was one outstanding figurehead for the period.
1990: Roy Jones
2000: Joe Calzaghe

 

But Gus was past his best when a young Charle beat him. This was not prime Gus.

He also beat some of the best elite like Bettina, Freddie Mills, Olin, Brouillard, and a few others.

Saying Charles beat him is like saying Marciano beat Louis.

 

Throw that win out altogether then. Charles was still the vastly superior LHW, in every way.
