Why is Pacquiao so popular in the US and the Klit brothers aren't?

Tickets get sold before anybody knows whether there is going to be a snow storm, so that really is a superfluous bit of information. :tong

Wow, you just try not to over simplify things TOO much, ok??

This post reeks of propaganda. Look, I'm a born American and a boxing fan. My dislike of Wlad Klitschko fights has nothing to do with him not being American, so try to hammer that fact into that thick head of yours. I first saw clips of Wlad on an HBO broadcast where they didn't show the whole fight, but let the fans know that a new heavyweight star was on the rise and should be paid attention to. And it worked, he looked awesome in that clip and I did want to see more of him. Wlad was an entertaining fighter in his earlier days before getting whacked by Sanders 4 or 5 times in less than 2 rounds. Since then he's been a safety first GIANT, which isn't a particularly thrilling entity.

I understand WHY he fights in the cautious safety first style, he's fighting defensively to avoid getting knocked out again. It makes sense. I also understand why myself and many others (Americans or otherwise) find this fighting style to be as boring as counting sand granules or watching paint dry. And that makes sense, too. I don't think there is a huge Klitschko fanbase in Canada or Englad, either, is it ok to call them simple haters of Klitschko, or just fans who aren't enamored with watching them fight?

Seriously rushman, did you even consider for a brief second that this "Americans hate Klitschko because he's not native to this land" bull**** kind of get's blown out of the water by so many US fans loving Pacquiao? Dude, if Wlad fought like Pacquaio he'd be a bigger star worldwide. It's a fact that can withstand any and all my land is better than your land patriotic ******ation.

Anyways, popularity is about marketability, Wlad is just too nice, and he doesn't have the ODLH effect because he doesn't look like little teddy bear, there's nothing interesting about him personality wise. He doesn't have the dichotomy of a Tyson, the high pitched voice, the killer instinct in the ring. And he just looks bored in his fights . . . That's why people were excited about David Haye, he seemed like he actually cared whether he won, and he was genuinely confident.

Its hilarious too see all these deep complex analysis when all it boils down to is that Pacquiao is a better fighter than the Klitscko's

What I am talking about is part of the issue, not the whole issue. I never said that American's don't like the Klits because they are "not natives of this land". (Please look up the definition of a strawman argument)

I said that part of the reason they are not popular is because they are perfect fits for an American cultural stereotype. One that subtly implies contempt and fear (an attitude that was actively encouraged for so many decades), and is clearly demonstrated through the use of language.

Your post reeks of being personally offended. Don't be. Cultural biases are not unique to the USA. But they are real, and for someone with the right education, they are very apparent.

Here is a bit of an introduction to the type of thing I am talking about; just in case you are interested in learning something.
It has been proven that embedded in the American psyche is a subconscious bias towards black people being perceived as somewhat less than human.

Here is a summary of the study and the implications:

    http://www.physorg.com/news123944737.html

    Here is the full paper:

    melissajwms.googlepages.com/GoffEberhardtWilliamsJackson2008JPSP.pdf

    Offensive? Yes. Real? Yes.

I don't want to be rude. What I stated in my first post is merely fact. You don't have to like it. You don't have to do accept it. But it is still fact.

If you want I can show you research which shows how people rationalise away unpleasant or confronting thoughts, MRI imaging which proves that the logical centres of the brains are not even engaged when it occurs.
Your use of a strawman argument (false logic) would indicate that either you have poor logic skills to begin with, or your logic centres are being bypassed.

Again, don't be personally offended. What I am talking about is merely an interesting observation that affects every culture and every individual. And it is all factual.

:good:goodAwesome post. I've noticed over time that Klitschko fans seem to be the most articulate posters on this terrific boxing forum. They appreciate the Klitschko's awesome professionalism and class both in and out of the ring. Their haters are generally thug-like, inarticulate, angry types who simply can't relate to heavyweight champs who don't trashtalk or disrespect their opponents, but instead spend a good part of their free time working for charities in third world countries. In any event both Klits have incredibly high K.O. percentages and anybody who likes seeing awesome power displayed by huge athletic freaks of nature should enjoy the Klitschko prizefights.
