I think my boy Miguel MUST win tonight. If he does, he's back on top so to speak. If he loses to Clottey, his stock goes WAY down. Opinions?
do or die for both fighters imo if Cotto loses he should contemplate retirement or rematch Margo if Clottey loses he downgrades to journeyman status
Yeah, but perhaps it depends how he loses. A loss would be devastating as he has gone from one of the main men to losing 2 of his last 3 fights. I think he beats Clottey tonight and looks impressive doing so. Cotto UD.
Obviously depends how the fight goes. Clottey is VERY underrated IMO. Cotto has been fighting top WWs for years now. A few losses are expected when you take on the best. I expect him to win tonight though.
I agree the he HAS to win tonight. But so does Clottey. This is his one shot at getting mentioned in the same breath as the marquee named welters. Cotto has a fanbase that would still show up for a second Margo fight or another Shane fight if he so happens to lose. It depends on how Cotto loses though. A loss for Clottey in any way, and its journeyman "ESPN FNF status" for him.
We need to stop worrying about losses that much. If you always fight the best it's sure you will lose.
Depends really on the loss. An L on your record is back any time you get one but if he loses in the same fashion as he did against Margarito, he'll answer a lot of questions about his true make up. If he loses a close disputed decision? Stock will be hurt but not shattered. Clottey ain't no joke.
I agree. But with casual boxing fans and the networks, losses DO matter unfortunately. Cotto don't duck nobody and that's why he's the truth.
I totally disagree and that is what is wrong with boxing today and your way of thinking. if the loss is by brutal knockout then you have a point but if it is controversial or close then each guy is still a viable opponent. So I dont buy into this journeyman nonsense. He could easily lose and go into a fight against Berto or similar. If Cotto loses he still could rematch Margarito or Mosley so there is always possibilities but it depends on how they are defeated.
Its do or die for both, sure both can still become champs after a loss tonight but I dont think the loser could ever really reach that true elite level.
Don'tbe daft, mate. Did his stock go down after the controversial loss to Margo? Hardly. If he wins then he sets himself up for the monster fights @ 147. If not, I'm sure Arum has already prepared the Margo rematch.
In other words, it's not do or die. Cotto drops out of the Pac/PBF sweepstakes with a loss but I don't think I'd call that "death". (Agreed, though, it makes the road to "elite greatness" almost impossible and it'd be a while before he got a truly big fight again, pending the Margo situation.)
A win for Cotto puts him in line for another big money fight : Either Mayweather, Pacquiao or Mosley II
