All those seeing the wilson fight on ITV will know what i mean, an accidental headbutt caused the cut on the other guys eye in the first round, meaning he lost just because he was unlucky to be headbutted. In most countries that would be ruled a no contest, but in England its classed as a defeat, why!?
i've made threads on this before over the years. the board of control are stuck in the dark ages on this one.
Absurd. He has a loss on his record because of a cut that happened in the first 30 seconds of a fight from a clash of heads.
Its shocking, why not just change to the before 4 rounds NC, after 4 rounds scorecards. The BBoC wont though cos theyre stuck in theyre ways. Happened to Darren McDermott last year losing him his unbeaten record (and british title chance) against Elcock. Siddique DQ was spot on though.
I am sorry, but are you lot mad? For a hundred plus years boxing has had the same rules, any fair (not caused by a foul) cut considered so bad that the fight needs to be stopped, means a TKO loss. The rule worked fine, as public pressure led to rematches where deserved, and that meant two payments to the pros; everyone was a winner! I mean what the hell is a technical draw or technical decision win/loss? It looks awful on a record, and goes over the head of the casual fan. Britain (the BBB of C) is pretty much the only sane organization left when it comes to cuts. If you get cut due to anything other than a foul and the cut is so bad, the fight needs to be stopped, you lose! Deal with it, very often it is hardly the end of the world. Anyone who holds such a defeat against someone in a close fight, does not understand the sport, so their opinion means very little.
I don't get what you're saying. Under the BBoC's rules you lose by tko even if the cut is from a headbutt. You think a win after going to the cards or a technical draw is worst than a loss from a foul?
Yes; if a cut is caused by a deliberate foul, then the ref needs to DQ the fighter. If it is by an accidental butt, then sorry, the sport is BOXING not ping pong, deal with it, if you are that unlucky, peer pressure will get you your rematch and chance of redemption. Boxing needs technical draws like Gordon Ramsey needs lessons in swearing.
It's not ping pong; but it's not a headbutting competition either. In boxing you use your fists; not your head. Where in the rules does it mention headbutting and how you should just 'deal with it'? "Rule 36. sec.4a You just got headbutted. Deal with it." IMO it should go to the scorecards. Otherwise it could set a dangerous precident. If a fighter's losing bad for 11 rounds, he could come out in the 12th, headbutt his opponent but make it look like an accident, and all of a sudden he goes from loser to winner. Crazy.
Really? You mean they had standing eight counts, 28 day suspensions and four-roped rings in the nineteenth century? Sorry if I sound sarcastic, but the rules have evolved over time to deal with changing circumstances. Back in the day it wasn't so much of a deal as a fighter would virtually have to lose an eye before being stopped but times change. I'm not keen on the four rounds rule but it should be basic common sense that if an accident occurs in the first 30 seconds of a fight there shouldn't be a winner or loser.
