when he was pressing the action he was backing clottey up and winning, but when he ran he was being walked down, and why the hell was he backing off after getting clottey against the ropes? also in the first few rounds he had a good high guard defense, he was blocking clotteys shots, even his uppercuts, he seemed to have abandoned that after the 4th or so. i think the margo loss is still haunting him, he really needs a new trainer and a team
I actually didn't see him blocking uppercuts, but his behavior and overall body language at times was too reminiscent of Cotto/Margarito. :\ Read my thoughts on this fight and let me know what you think: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147928 From what I've seen of your posts, I actually respect your opinion thus far.
To be fair to the guy he had a really bad cut and I bet it hurt like hell everytime he got tagged there. I think he was okay a little bit of a stamina issue is all maybe.
The cut affected him. He didn't want to pour on the punches in case an already horrific cut was worsened by another clash of heads. I think people expect too much at times. Cotto could easily have bitched out of the fight but instead he chose to soldier on and put a display on for the fans. He won a tough fight fair and square.
well it was mostly in the first round and then some in the 2nd and 3rd, he was doing well with that style of defense but abandoned it i think before or after the 4th.
I think the cut affected Cotto a great deal. He seemed different once the cut started bleeding profusely. Simple.
If he's gonna just stand there instead of use his feet and box, then someone's gotta teach that boy some head movement. He just sits there leaning over with his ear muffs on waiting for someone to hit him straight thru the middle. I mean, come on, wtf.
Yup...he finished strong which is what won him the fight. Clottey can't seem to grasp the concept of being the aggressor in the latter rounds. If Cotto had not been cut, I'm sure he would've won more convincingly.
it annoyed the hell out of me as well; he'd have Clottey against the ropes and leave him off! but i think he felt that he wasn't doing any real damage there, and knew that the only way to hit Clottey was make him throw then counter!he obviously felt the best way to do this AND reserve energy was going backwards Give him credit, it worked.....
I said in another post that for Cotto, his gameplan and execution of it were completely ruined by the cut. I think he was so worried about the fight being stopped that he just played it safe and tried to box Clottey for the points. IMO, had he kept the pressure up on the ropes he would have stopped Clottey.
Translation: I'm tired of you whipping my azz like I'm Cotto and you're Clottey, so please leave me alone, ok? Don't force me to post more , please?
