for the first 2 or 3 rounds did anyone else notice improvements in cotto's defense?

he was using a high guard properly, like how clottey does, he made clottey miss quiet a few uppercuts, i wonder why he abandoned it:huh

hmmm, i didn't really pay attention but you could be right. maybe the cut affected him. i do agree that throughout the fight, notably past round 4, cotto would slide and glide right in front of clottey and then stop, throw punches and wait for the counters. he really abandoned movements and stuck with the ineffective guard even as clottey was piercing it with uppercuts

shouldn't that have made him use that type of a defense more?

    How's that?

He couldn't stop the right hand to save his life for long periods of time.

Eh yes, and no. That type of defense also leaves you vulnerable to getting hit by yourself. Simply punching Cotto's gloves could make that cut worst, so he went to weaving more in the later rounds

im convinced that cotto cannot beat a paul williams or mayweather, or pacquiao... and i think berto might be able to push the issue at this point... his punches dont seem to have that devastating effect on really good fighters and someone like paul williams whose volume is unbelievable would be a crushing effect... mayweather a very accurate puncher with superb defense i have a feeling would wear cotto out and eventually stop him even though mayweather isnt a powerful puncher.. and berto is so quick and accurate i could definitely see that being a war

Paul Williams knocks out both Cotto and Clottey. Why did Jim Lampley choke up like a ***** last night?

I noticed it, that guard frustrated Clottey too.....it was very effective. If Cotto can train himself to keep it up he would be a much improved fighter.

Think that the reason he abandoned it because he got tired and couldnt keep his hands up that high anymore

I defo noticed the right hand attached to the right side of his face.
But Clottey stopped that by going to his body and doubling the left w/body & upper's.

Cotto defo can't fight going backwards.
    That is still very apparent.

    yeah you noticed it too?

i was very happy to see him use it, i thought he would go through the entire fight like that, but soon after the 3rd or 4th he went back to his old style of defense.
