first of all a new coach is a MUST

second i think they should give Cotto a few easier fights such as collazo, Berto and even Baldomir and then have him fight guys like clottey again.

    what do you think?

I don't think Cotto is staying with Top Rank for too long.

It won't shock me if Arum puts him through three fights with three murderous opponents in a span of nine months before he leaves just to milk him as much as he can.

We can't tell from this fight. He had a devastating cut that obviously affected his performance

people on here are on his ass because he won a close fight against a live contender in clottey. fighting lower level opposition will NOT help him imo. maybe a fight with berto as hes an undefeated beltholder but the rest wont do him any favours

stlyistically berto could cause problems for cotto, the uppercut for clottey was his best punch early on and berto has a very good right uppercut that could hurt cotto. berto was troubled by collazo's uppercut, so that could also be cotto's best shot.

i don't think rebuilding cotto is the right thing, yesterday he looked at his best when he exchanges, his boxing has improved in the last couple of years but i think he needs to get back to basics and fight. the boxing ability is good when you need it, like in the last two rounds it helped him get the victory, but from rounds 7-10 clottey controlled the fight because he was outpunching cotto.

what cotto needs is a proper toe-toe fight, i think the margarito rematch is a good fight. clottey's speed caused him problems, margarito doesn't bring that problem. if cotto rematches margarito this time he should stand his ground and fight. also to deal with the stamina i think cotto needs to do some long distance running, he was really weak late on in the fight and clottey was never far from dropping him.

As far as Arum is concerned Cotto will fight where the money is. Cotto aint backing out against anyone and that's why Arum can do what he wants with him. Also, in terms of rebuilding him I think that is a bit negative- Cotto is still a force to be reckoned with. Had he not been so bothered about the cut he would have TKO'd Clottey, IMO. For me, that's a guy very much at the top of the welterweight division.

He's had bad cuts before, this new retreating style of him is doing him no good, he needs to go back to his old style of seek and destroy.

He seemed cagey to me, concerned about what would come back at him, he doesn't feel invincible anymore.

He still has terrific skills and a wide array of offensive skills. That said, I wonder if Pacquiao would be able to gobble him up regardless of the size disparity?

Absolutely, he needs someone like Freddie Roach while Freddie is not too busy. He said in an interview he would've loved to get a phone call from Cotto.

I think top rank must force Miguel to get this kind of trainer even if he doesn't want this since he doesn't like change.

Also, an "easier" fight against the like of Berto, Collazo or Cintron (would be my pick here with his win over Angulo, considering he last fought in the same period than Cotto) to give him confidence and get him used to his new trainer would be the right thing to do IMO...Not Baldomir thought....

Miguel is only 28 so they have plenty of time for this. This would be an investment that would pay a lot of dividends....

lol @ tko'd clottey lol lol.. he never had clottey even remotely hurt and did u see clottey face at the end of the fight... absolutely no cuts or signs of anything... he is lucky that clottey is a defensive fighter cuz in a rematch i bet u clottey will be alot more aggressive and beat from pole to pole for at least 10 rounds

he doesnt have the chin to stand toe to toe with world class fighters... these fighters at the welterweight division go alot harder then guys that he stood toe to toe with like torres, corley and even zab...
