Right, in a 10-point must system the winner of a round always receives 10 points. In a normal round, with no KD's and where the other fighter is outpointed but not overwhelmingly dominated, the loser gets 9 points. When there is a KD, the round is typically scored 10-8. However, this is not mandatory. The fact is, Clottey was all set to take the first round when he got caught with that nice shot. A judge COULD take all factors into consideration and award Cotto 10-9 since he was clearly trailing up until that point. FYI, the ONLY time you'll get a 9-9 round is if the fighter who wins the round is deducted a point during the round by the ref.
I really don't see the dispute here. Round One was a fairly even round. Fairly even. Cotto scores the knockdown = 10-8 Cotto. Round Six was dominated by Cotto, but no knockdown and no significantly damaging punches = 10-9 Cotto. Pretty easy really. Clottey was in no way doing enough in Round One to have that be a 10-9 round.
9-9 easy. how the hell is that a 10-8 round for Cotto??? did he dominate?? he got a jab in when Clottey was off balance. 9-9 round easy giving Clottey a draw on my card
Boxing is scored on the 10 point must system. The winner of the round MUST get 10 points. However, I don't agree that if the boxer that gets knocked down is winning the round its hould be scored 10-8. Not at all
