Why all the hate and ridicule for Cotto?

Seriously guys, I know ESB is totally reactionary and extreme in the hours and day after a big fight, but this is a bit over the top.

Cotto won the fight. I was surprised it was even a split decision, Clottey just didn't do enough to win. Cotto went toe-to-toe when the time was right, and boxed beautifully when the circumstances dictated it. He was in with a very tough, durable, highly ranked and well regarded welterweight, and he showed a lot of heart and determination.

He also had a ****ing horrible cut, that was every bit as bad as Barrera's against Khan for example, yet Barrera gets a free pass and a lot of excuses about how much it hindered him, and how well he would have done without it. No one seems to mention it with regards to Cotto and this particular fight.

So, Cotto wins a SD against Joshua Clottey, and suddenly he is no good. Yeah right, whatever.

He's still a great fighter, he just lost on the day, that's all.

I just got it to see it there, I had it 115-114 Cotto with the 10th round being a swing round, meaning it could have been scored the other way giving Clottey the win.

    ^^This..
Plus it's fun to make fan's angry sometimes. :yep

Everyone know's I had a Cotto avi & supported him in this fight.
That said, I feel Clottey won the fight or at least deserved a draw.
116-111 was garbage, not MC's fault.
(But most of his fanatic's are *****'s for the most part so **** it..)

Seems the same to me, the usual cries of "robbery" and bitching from the partisans of the losing fighter, or from those who had money on him. Nothing out of the ordinary so far as I can see.

And, you are absolutely right about the fight - it was a clear, close win for Cotto. I had it 115-112.

Saying Clottey didn't do enough to win is laughable. He basically beat Cotto up.

The fight doesn't really prove anything to me though - that cut (a result Clottey not being able to KEEP HIS ****ING HEAD with its JAGGED EDGES away from the other fighter) was awful. It was right over the eye and just hanging open.

If that cut was not present I could see Cotto wanting to go to war with Clottey more and I could see him catching Clottey and sending him down again.

Yeah there was certainly a point after being battered in round 6 were Clottey came back into it in a big way, but he never capitalised on the momentum, he basically got lazy and complacement and threw it away.

Cotto was the more consistent fighter throughout, and certainly the more accomplished boxer. Not taking anything away from Clottey, he fought bravely, but for me, Cotto won close but clearly. As I said I was very surprised it was even a SD.

The fight doesn't go to the guy who causes the most visible damage. Clottey gave the championship rounds away, which is exactly WHY he didn't do enough to win.

funny how just a few are crying over all the scores... but not even one associated press has score it on clotteys favor... even Dan Rafael on ESPN has it for cotto with a huge margin difference which I disagree... but clearly cotto won the fight...

Didn't say it did. Clottey did beat up Cotto though - not THAT badly but it was a fairly good beating.

Clottey was fighting for 30 seconds a round, and taking rounds off. He basically went on vacation after 7 & 8, and the biggest beating anyone took in the fight was Clottey in RD6. Not taking anything away for Clottey, but there is no doubt it my mind that he felt he was well ahead and was bascially trying to cruise to a 'w' that he hadn't fully earned. And that's why he lost the fight.

True. But we've all seen worse.
