I just did. Cotto won that fight. He took more punishment than he may have wanted to because the cut was very troublesome for him (damn you Clottey and that head of yours) but he won the fight. 116-111 was obviously a disgrace but the right man won.
I just watched the fight again and I have 114-113 for Cotto, it wasn't pretty but Cotto won. That cut obviously had a huge effect on Cotto but he kept fighting. I do not want to discredit Clottey because to discredit him would be to discredit Cotto's victory but Clottey just didn't do enough to win. I wonder what the result would've been if it was Clottey the one with the cut:bbb
Clottey can't be cut in the true sense. If you break his skin you just expose the titanium endo-skeleton protecting the Cyberdyne T1800 chip.
I had it 114-113 Cotto as well. Was rooting bigtime for my man Clottey but... he completely blew the fight by not letting his hands go in the 11th and 12th.
I'm going to watch the repeat on Setanta in a few minutes, had Cotto winning first time and imagine I will have him winning again.
I just watched it for the 2nd time. The first was live in Madison Square Garden last night with 5 buddies of mine, 4 of whom were Puerto Rican. Amazingly enough, 2 of them conceded victory to Clottey. I myself gave the victory to Cotto in a very close, hard fought bout. I'd love to see them do it again. As with every fight of Miguel Cotto's as of late I've developed more respect for the man after witnessing it. My hat goes off to him and the fight was really too close to call. I guess it all depends on what you judge. Some people will say that Cotto did a lot of backpeddling. True. But Clottey got caught on the ropes a few times throughout the fight. Then others will say that Clottey was blocking those punches. Then some will say Cotto was more active. And others will counter that with Clottey was more effective and it could go on and on. Truth be told, I wish it went 15 rounds. A fight like that makes it very difficult to declare a loser.
Everyone at my place had Cotto winning, Ledderman had him winning, and 2/3 judges had him winning. I had him winning by 2: Cotto-6, Clottey-5, 1 even rd (10th), 10-8 in the 1st. 116-111 was a bit much, but the right guy won. What was up w/Clottey trying to quit--TWICE? He did the same thing against Margarito (though I had him winning that fight, 'injured' hands and all, comfortably). Its hard to see giving Clottey any more than 6 rds in this fight. Holding your hands up and getting hit on the gloves doesn't win you rds. He had a cut guy in front of him from rd. 3 on and failed to take full advantage of it. He blew it, bigtime. Around rd 8 I really thought Clottey was on his way to an easy win, or possibly stoppage, but then around the 10th he just stopped. How many more chances does he think he's gonna get? Clottey just didn't go for it, and he disappeared in the last 2-3 rds. Way too cautious. Big props to Cotto for persevering under some very tough circumstances, and for taking such a hard fight to begin with.
