if he had some bernard hopkins style commitment and a good strategy for keeping fit at the weight how far do you think he could have gone at heavyweight? I think he may have been able to go all the way, the klitschkos would obviously be tough but I think he'd have been able to beat everybody else.
Toney is awesome. Just awesome. He is a fat slob now but he is a joy to watch for someone who really loves the sweet science. It is a true testament to his ability to be able to go from Middleweight and compete effectively against Peter, Ruiz, Holyfield etc. Not to mention that awesome Jirov war.
Yeah, its weird how much credit others have got for jumping weightclasses, hes gone all the way from middle to heavy but doesnt seem to get that much. Completely seriously, maybe its because hes fat? People dont want to give credit to a fat guy for being a great fighter, theyd rather laugh at him. Changing the topic slightly...IF toney had got the deserved win against Peter in the first fight, then beat wlad....what would that do for his ATG ranking? Itd be ****ing impressive, and when you think how much credit jones got for beating ruiz (which I think is deserved anyway) imagine a middleweight actually becoming THE man at heavyweight
The thing is though he hasnt been great at the higher weights Take out Jirov , who's constant attacking had a lot to do with that fights brilliance and Holyfield who was already by then shot to ****ing pieces and whats left ? Toney will always be a spectacularly talented fighter , who couldnt keep on top his weight and cost him his true place.
Toney moved up from 160 to take on fighters who were almost 240 pounds. Also, anyone can see the guy is a MASTER boxer. An absolute defensive MASTER.
He'd look more like this: This content is protected * * * And less like this: This content is protected Toney is one of my favorite fighters of all time. He still has the desire to fight, but he has to still want to train and control his eating to be able to do so at any reasonable level.
Toney is one of the most gifted fighters of the past 25 years! such a waste.... then again, he is the one with the talent...he can use it how he pleases.
I heard talk that he was supposed to fight in May, but that came and went. He is one of my favorite fighters, but he shows no sign of commitment at this point and age is too much of a factor, I feel. Prove me wrong, James.
