I think a stoppage is very possible here. All of Lacy's wins since the Calzaghe fight and the injuries were extremeley close or debatable, and for me it seems Jones has more left than Taylor, who dominated Jeff for most of the fight. Jones is MUCH quicker than Taylor and at 175, where the fight will be at, he's a LOT more powerful. After 'gun-shy years' he let his hands go vs. Tito, and quite interestingly, he threw as much punches vs. Calzaghe as in the Ruiz fight, he was just outnumbered by a very fast, slick, skilled elite fighter. Lacy is nothing like Joe, this late version is absolutely tailor-made for Jones: slow, small, predictable, lacks power, lacks confidence, not busy enough, took a lot of punishment lately. I'd be absolutely shocked to see Lacy pulling this off as I think Roy has more left then he's getting credited for, and there's an excellent chance to prove it via a stoppage win over Jeff.
i think this is a good fight for roy at this point in his career, lacy is as soft a touch as omar sheika but is not considered such, and roy should have a field day just pot shotting him until the ref stops it ala shieka or just lets it go to an easy UD then afterwards roy can justify getting a shot at one of the big dogs at 168 or 175... not saying he deserves one, but he can justify it... just like he justified getting the winner of calzaghe-hopkins by beating a faded tito
Roy destroyed Sheika,Tito and went 12 with p4p no 2 Calzaghe. Lacy arguably lost to Mendoza and Griffin. And was destroyed by Taylor.
Good post. Lacy is a good guy who has decent boxing skills. he throws hard and tries his best. RJJ just doesnt know when to call it quits and I am pulling for a Lacy knock out.
yes rjj can stop lacy...and that is the problem. i love rjj and he has been my guy since i was a kid...but he needs to retire and beating lacy (especially stopping him) won't convince him to do it. lacy isnt up and coming and he isnt a top smw, but he is a recognizable name and that is just what rjj wants...someone w/ a recognizable name that he can beat the **** out of.
