There's a lot of talk on this topic going around after the Cotto-Clottey fight. Things such as "Cotto's lost his confidence," "he's not the same fighter as he was," etc. Some people feel that this began in the Mosley fight, when Shane walked down a retreating Cotto for the final 4 or so rounds of the bout. Is Miguel Cotto past his best? Did Margo steal his boxing soul? Has Cotto lost his "all-out attack, invincible" mindset and, if so, can he get it back? Finally, if you think Cotto has lost his mojo, do you also think that Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao sense this, too? That is, are they trying to make the fight with Miguel now because they feel Cotto has lost some of his confidence? :bbb
First of all...you're an idiot merely for posting that ridiuculous thread where you cried worse than Clottey  Secondly: Cotto's got some serious defensive flaws, especially on the inside. He is prone to left uppercuts. As long as he keeps facing top competition, he's going to have problems, as they will continually exploit these defensive flaws. With Mosley, he found possibly the most resilient fighter he'll ever face, and someone who had speed, intelligence, and also very comparable strength. It's not surprising that he had to change his tactics, as we are all quite aware now that you cannot just walk your way thru Mosley. He fought a smart fight, and it turned out to be a very close contest, IMO...one that could have easily gone either way and warrants a rematch. With Margarito, he tried playing Margarito's game, and seemed to be content fighting off his bike. I think he believed he'd be able to put Margarito down, but as Margarito kept eating his shots, Margarito also exploited Cotto's vulnerability to left uppercuts ten fold. Cotto eventually was worn down and refused to adjust the gameplan to one that would leave him winning by points. All this is coupled with the fact that never before has Cotto had to use his legs as much, and he was bleeding a lot from the nose and was probably swallowing blood. Two stones collided that night, and one broke the other. With Clottey, I get the impressiont hat Cotto was conflicted in a sense as far as what fight he wanted to fight. There were times that he looked similar to the Cotto that fought Margarito. And there were other times where he looked similar to the Cotto that fought Mosley. But there weren't really many times, if any at all, where he looked like the Cotto that walked thru weaker competition. With all being said, Cotto is not going to be able to walk thru top competition, and will need to adjust his style and fight smart if he wants to continue winning. Otherwise, they will all exploit his vulnerabilities and he will continue to lose confidence. I had Cotto winning by 1 point, but it was quite obvious to me that even Clottey took some more of Cotto's confidence that night. I blame it mostly on his defensive flaws, as he cannot rely on his chin the way Margarito did. And even if he DID...look what happened when Margarito faced Mosley? Margarito was too one dimensional to adjust.
The one with 330+ responses and 4,000+ page views? That thread? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the proprietors of ESB may not be as broken up as you appear to be over that thread. I apologize if you are a Cotto fanboy and his bodyslam being viewed here hurt your case of presenting him as blameless. Don't take it up with me, tell it to Miguel "MMA" Cotto.
Yes, I think there's something to this. Cotto has not looked the same since the Margarito fight. Whether this is just a function of the guys he's been fighting, or his trainer problems, remains to be seen. But based on what I have seen to this point, I wouldn't favor him against any of the top guys.
:good I agree with this. Miguel can't just walk through guys like he used to do at 140. Guys like SSM, AM and JC have have ended the "relentless" era of Cotto's career, it seems.
Don't think so, Cotto fought the way he usually fights just a bit more cautious than usual and for good reason.
The one thing you have to give to Cotto is that he is quite adept at the "PBF School" of fighting. I don't like it much, but he is good at fighting going side to side and off the back foot. The man has a lot of talent and skill, you have to give him that.
Those guys that he was walking through at 140 were outweighed by Cotto 15+ pounds a lot of the time. He just got a little taste of his own medicine once he stepped up against guys that weigh as much as he does on fight night at 147.
*DING* This is how I feel as well :good Boriqua -- It's ok, at some point your scrotal sack will fully descend, and you, too, will become an adult Taino keyboard warrior. Where you at, NYC or the Island? I LOVE PR girls, they're tight. In fact, that chick who used to be Gavin Newsom's wife is one of my favorites on TV right now: This content is protected This content is protected
I'd definitely conisder myself a fan of Cotto, as I've enjoyed watching him fight since i first saw him fight Branco. I wouldn't, however, consider myself a fan boy, as I don't blind myself to his weaknesses. Seriously, though...that "take down" was just rough housing which I've seen many many times in boxing before without any ill effect to either fighters. If he continually did this throughout the bout, then I could understand the outrage and would be angry myself. It's been going on in boxing for years, though. Take a look at Willie Pep vs. Sandy Saddler as an example of the extreme. But what you saw Cotto do wasn't anything new to boxing, nor anything as blatant as hitting someone on the head while they are down, much like what Jones did to Griffin.
you stupid ass....Cotto won against an avoided fighter...and beat him with one eye!!!!! You're trying to insinuate he isn't the same fighter when he fought with an inch and half gash over his eye since the third round. You are a complete BOZO!!!!!
to be Gavin Newsom's wife is one of my favorites on TV right now: This content is protected This content is protected
She is actually half Irish and half Puerto Rican....which is ok by me!!!!
