He was winning the first 8 rounds and then just tapered off in the last 4. He had Cotto ****ed up with the cut and was giving him a hard off, and he let off. And as for the punch stats, that doesnt mean ****. Clottey threw those extra 100 punches in the first 8 rounds, then had low output for the last four. He outlanded Cotto in the first 8 rounds and then rounds 9-12, he was on the receiving end of the shots and didnt throw nearly enough back. Thats called giving away a fight, he has no one to blame but himself.
Completely agree. In my estimation the only thing holding him back in being #1 or in life/death contention for it is mentality issues. But there it is.
He has good defense but that's what causes him to have such low output. When he is in his shell he just won't throw, won't counter. That's what hurts him. I hope he gets more chances. He's a very good fighter.
Exactly! If Clottey had thrown some punches in the last two rounds, he would have won the fight. He has only himself to blame for not closing strong.
Clottey is a very tough fighter man and gave Cotto a War I also give him a lot of credit, but he didnt do enough to take away the W
Exactly. To me, it was pretty clear who won. I was a little surprised at the SD and then even MORE surprised - although I shouldn't have been - at all the bellyaching here.
It wasn't necessarily super clear. It was very close. I think Cotto edged it out, but a draw or Clottey SD would not have been a surprise (on neutral venue of course)
