No, I don't think Marg ruined Cotto. Cotto, before Marg, was a beast. I guess it was around the Mosley fight where Cotto started thinking he was Ray Leonard. He doesn't seem to trust in his punches anymore and goes on the backfoot. It just doesn't seem he believes in his power. Then he wins an exchange, hurts or stuns an opponent, and then just ****en WALKS AWAY! I think Cotto not having a proper trainer is what is hurting him. :deal

He definitely has a lot of talent and skill otherwise he wouldn't have beat Mosley. Just saying that he just can't deal with consistent aggression regardless of opponent, as long as he's being pressured and can't back his opponent off he slowly breaks down. His defense needs to improve as well or he's getting KO'd again.

i thought there was a considerable decline of cotto in the clottey fight......he looked slower, his power seemed to be lacking from previous fights, his power shots just didnt seem "to be all there"....and he looked mentally not all the way there as well......

I'm afraid cotto would get flattened by manny, margo, even lose a decision to mosley if they fought again.....i think there is a real possibility cotto could be done at the elite level.....and i'm far from being a cotto hater, thats just what i saw.

It's important to remember the man has pretty much been training himself for his past three fights or so.

    Watch Cotto/Urkal.

Cotto looked faster against Clottey than he did against Oktay Urkal in one of his first fights at 47 as an undefeated fighter.

And also he was a one eyed fighter....the approach changed after the
    " headbutt "
He also knocked down the " Iron Chin " and had him hurt on the ropes.

So keep it in that context and maybe it may shed a different light.

    :good

Although I don't think he won the Mosley fight :?

You're right, and I'm sure Pac knows it, too. If he doesn't correct that up-the-middle defense and do better with uppercuts, Manny will batter him with straight lefts down the pike and uppercuts. He has never been a very good defensive fighter, Cotto.

Captain - I know you're just messing with me :good

okay, i will take a look, I just thought cotto's arsenal against clottey was not up to snuff, but that could just be a testimate to clottey's skills

He looked like complete garbage in that fight. That was the worst I've seen him look.

This is true, and Margarito had jack **** to do with it. Point established.

Can't really argue with you if you picked Mosley over him, I know others who made the case but for me I just thought Cotto won it in a close yet clear UD. Mosley didn't bite, he had the guy hurt and even though the ref screwed up in the 10th Cotto was still dazed. Mosley should have applied an aggressive style in this one rather than trying to box, that's what cost him the fight, if he was aggressive he would have won it. Think the Margarito fight will encourage future Cotto opponents to be more aggressive against him and he doesn't deal with that well.

About being wide open to uppercuts, watch for him to get TKO'd within the first 5 rounds against Pac because of that.

If Cotto was garbage he wouldn't have pulled out a win against " the most
    avoided fighter " in Clottey.

Both Clottey and Cotto are good fighters. Makes sense.
