but ali famously wanted his gloves taken off though, choosing not to come out for the final round, but then it was called off.... at least as i hear it

Lamon Brewster in the first Wlad fight deserves a mention here as well.

Jeff Lacy sticking it out for his 12 round beating by Calzaghe.
That was some hart. He took a hiding for 12 solid rounds.

Maybe not #1, but worth a mention was Paulie Malignaggi continuing to come forward and engage against Miguell Cotto with a broken jaw and orbital.

so the story goes and if you watch the fight , look at them in their corners at the end , Ali looks done and does not look like he wants to come out , over the other side Frazier is virtually crying becasue they won't let him go out.

And this was a half blind , past his best Frazier after 14 rounds in the searing heat of Manilla fighting the greatest heavy weight of all time and a man who was bigger and faster than him and they still had to save him from himself.

His career is full of things like that.

Even the first Ali fight , although he won ( and deservedly ) there were periods were Ali was hitting him absolutey everything and little Frazier just f**king marched through it all.

I love Ali but Frazier is War

Wlad would quit 15 times over before going through the things he did.

Yeah yeah yeah - Ali would never have quit.. Its just hype made up by people who nut hug fraizer.. Simple as that. Ali never quit against foreman, he fought 10 rounds with a broken jaw against kenny norton and he got the daylights beat out of him by trevor berbick whilst he had parkinsons. He wud never ever have quit and anyone who says he was about to or almost did are daft.

Agreed, it always annoys me that Ali got the W, when he wanted his gloves cut off after the 14th and Frazier blind in both eyes wanted to fight on.
